God raises the poor from the dust

God is the one who supports the poor, helps them, lifts them out of their situations, puts them on high so that they know that power and mercy belong to the Lord.

His goodness reaches the poor and lifts him from his calamities, protects widows, blesses the barren and the needy. Let us praise our God for His great wonders, for His feats, because today we are here because of His great love for us.

You are worthy, Lord, that you pity the poor, you take him out of calamities and do not let him die in the desert. That is why we find these encouraging words that give encouragement to the poor:

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;

Psalm 113:7

It is good to note how Psalm 113 begins, giving praise to the Lord, glorifying His holy name forever and ever.

Who is like our Lord who is in heaven? There will be no other as kind as our God, there is only one true God who raises the poor and the humble of heart from the dust. Let us give thanks forever and only to Him.

When the Scriptures speak about the poor, they remind us that God’s compassion is not limited to economic need alone. Many are poor in spirit, wounded by life, oppressed by injustice, or crushed by circumstances beyond their control. The Lord sees every tear, every silent cry, and every burden carried in the heart. His mercy reaches far beyond what human eyes can perceive.

From the beginning, God has shown Himself as a defender of the helpless. He listens to the cry of those who have no voice and acts in favor of those whom society often ignores. This truth gives great comfort to believers, because it assures us that no suffering goes unnoticed by the Lord. Even in moments of abandonment, His presence remains faithful and strong.

Psalm 113 teaches us that the greatness of God is revealed not only in His power, but also in His humility. Though He reigns in heaven, He bends down to lift the needy from the dust. This divine act shows that God restores dignity to those who have been humiliated, giving them hope, purpose, and new life. His intervention transforms sorrow into joy and despair into renewed strength.

As believers, we are called to reflect this same compassion in our daily lives. If God cares deeply for the poor, then our hearts must also be sensitive to the needs around us. Showing kindness, offering help, and extending mercy are ways in which we honor the Lord and demonstrate His love to the world. Through simple acts of obedience, we become instruments of His grace.

Let us remember that everything we possess comes from the hand of God. Wealth, health, and strength are temporary, but His mercy endures forever. When we place our trust in Him, He sustains us in times of abundance and in times of need. Our confidence is not in what we have, but in who He is.

Today, let our hearts overflow with gratitude. Let us praise the Lord for His goodness, for His faithfulness, and for His unfailing love toward the humble and the poor. May our lives proclaim that He is a just God, full of mercy, who lifts the needy and reigns forever in glory.
