5 mistakes that the Christian should not make when praying

When we are going to pray we should always do it in the best way, not demanding, but asking that His will be done, in addition, thanking God for everything.

It often happens that many people make this kind of mistake and try to make the prayer only for their own benefit, regardless of the consequences.

That is why we bring you 7 Errors that a Christian should not make when praying to God our Heavenly Father.

1. Not knowing God

Believing in God is not enough, because everyone who claims to know God must have a relationship with Him, is not just saying “I know Him”, but being able to have that moment alone with God. The epistle of James makes a mention about prayer.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

James 2:19

We only have one true God in whom we must trust and believe with all our hearts, but remember that it is not only to believe but to be able to have an encounter with God so that we can be different, and that is how our prayers can be heard by our God, and that is why His Words are there to be studied so that we can learn and know about the Lord in every sense of the word.

2. Not ask that God’s will be done

We must be very clear that when we ask for something we must do it as follows: “Father, may Your will be done and not mine, because Yours is the glory and Yours is the power and Your will is divine and it is when You decide that we will you help me”. Many do not do this, but ask and want to receive just at that time. When you ask, wait on the Lord, do not faint because He will not be late.

In Isaiah’s book we find this important text:

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

We should never compare ourselves to the Lord, because as He tells us in His word, our thoughts are not like His. It is so because God is God in heaven and on earth, His ways go beyond our ways, only God can do all the possible things. So, let’s not make this kind of mistake with our Creator questioning His willingness.

3. Not thank

It is very common to see people every day asking the Lord, after they have their blessing, they say with their mouth “I got such a thing”, but with this they are exalting themselves, and their ignorance many have not realized that before they did not they had nothing, and that by the mercy of God they already have something. But something that escapes them is that God gives and God can take away. Do not be arrogant when you receive something from God, because God looks at the arrogant from afar and looks at the humble closely.

11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Luke 17:11-19

The story of the ten lepers is very interesting. They appeared to Jesus at the time He was on His way to Jerusalem, and they shouted to Him to heal them, but when Jesus saw them He sent them to a place where they would be healed, but after being healed only one returned to give thanks to Jesus.

What happened to the other nine? Jesus asked. Today we see those same, many people make the mistake that after receiving the blessing or healing, they do not return to church or visit. Let us take into account that no matter in the circumstances that we find ourselves, let us thank God for everything, if we were healthy, if we did not receive healing, if our request was answered, if it was not answered, God is God.

4. Not be obedients to the Lord

A prayer without obedience will not be received by the Father, because how can you pray when you are in disobedience with your parents? For this prayer will not be received by God, since it is not pleasant before God. If you are obedient, you have love, peace, and you are keeping the statutes of God, and that is why in the Gospel of John we find this biblical verse talking about obedience.

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

1 John 5:3

Can a person who claims to be obedient have the love of God? Yes, because he is prudent in everything, he hears what his parents tell him, he is obedient to his parents, but a person who does not listen, nor is obedient, will stumble on the same feet. That is why we must be careful when praying to the Father, because many are disobedient, and so they pray to the Lord, waiting to receive from Him and do not receive because they are being disobedient to Almighty God. Remember that if you are in disobedience, God will not hear your prayer.

5. Pray to God to favor some and disadvantage others

We meet countless people who day by day ask God to make mercy on them and not others, even many ask God to remove some people from the face of the earth. Is this love of God? No, God does not answer these prayers because He is not a God who only does mercy with some and not with others. God loves us all and John tells us about this great truth:

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 13:34-35

God treats His children well, because in his Word he says that He does not make respect for people. God is a righteous God and that is why we should not pray in this way asking for evil for others. As we read earlier, we must love our neighbors as ourselves. This is the command that our God left us.

...
God raises the poor from the dust
Cursed be the deceiver
