Lazy people always live their lives as if nothing matters to them, this type of people are very calm, they act only when someone holds their hands, they don’t like to work, they just like to sleep and others do their homework.
What can happen to someone lazy? He is someone totally trapped, the life of that being is totally disordered, he picks up when he doesn’t have to pick up, he sows not yet being the time.
This is an admonition of the wise proverb speaking to the lazy man:
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Proverbs 6:9
Solomon’s words are clear in this verse, this man asks the lazy to explain his ways, because in poetic form he says that the lazy only wants to sleep and do nothing else. This is not good, beloved brothers, because a person like that, when difficult times arrive, well, he has a very sad end because he never prepared himself for such a thing.
The book of Proverbs constantly exhorts us to live with wisdom, discipline, and responsibility. Laziness is not simply a lack of desire to work; it is a spiritual and moral condition that slowly damages every area of life. A lazy person gradually loses opportunities, credibility, and even relationships, because others cannot depend on someone who avoids effort and responsibility.
Solomon often contrasts the lazy person with the diligent one. While the diligent prepares in season, plans ahead, and works with perseverance, the lazy delays, excuses himself, and lives waiting for others to resolve his problems. Over time, this lifestyle leads to poverty, frustration, and a sense of emptiness that cannot be filled with rest or comfort.
Laziness also affects our spiritual life. When a believer becomes spiritually lazy, prayer becomes scarce, reading the Word feels heavy, and fellowship with other believers is neglected. Little by little, the heart becomes cold, and the person stops growing in faith. Spiritual sleep is dangerous because it makes us vulnerable to temptation and discouragement.
God calls His people to be watchful and active. From the beginning, the Lord gave man the responsibility to work, cultivate, and care for what He had entrusted to him. Work itself is not a curse; rather, it is part of God’s design for human life. Through work, we glorify God, serve others, and provide for our needs.
A lazy attitude often hides behind excuses. Some say they are waiting for the right moment, others claim they lack strength or motivation, but the truth is that discipline is built through small, consistent actions. The wise understand that effort today brings rest tomorrow, while laziness today brings hardship later.
The warning in Proverbs is an invitation to self-examination. Are we using our time wisely? Are we developing the gifts God has given us? Or are we wasting precious opportunities because of comfort and fear of effort? These are important questions that each believer must ask honestly before the Lord.
Beloved brother, beloved friend that you are reading, are you sleeping in the ways of the Lord, are you sleeping in this life? Don’t sleep, wake up, stand up. Laziness should not take first place. God is not pleased with lazy people. Let us work in the Lord and also secularly so that we may be blessed and prosperous. God bless you.
