Chapter seven of the book of Jeremiah is entitled “The sermon at the gate of the temple” and deals with some words that God gave His servant to communicate to His people. It was not a message of beautiful words to the human ear, but some harsh words that the people of Israel had itching to hear, to straighten their paths.
This chapter promptly begins harshly from verse 3:
3 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. 4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, are these.
