What can we say about Ruth? Perhaps she is a character that is not usually mentioned too much, but from her we can learn a life of faith in God and a lot of virtue. Abraham obeyed God by leaving his land and going out to a stranger land, but from Ruth we also learn that she left her land to go to one she did not know.
Ruth, from the lands of Moab, comes genetically from Lot, who was Abraham’s nephew. She lived in the time of the Judges of Israel, she married a man who came from Israel while still in Moab. She at some point she had to suffer the loss of her husband, father-in-law and her brother-in-law. And exactly here the virtuous Ruth is born.
This woman of God had to make the decision to stay in Moab or to go with her mother-in-law Naomi to Israel, since her mother-in-law was going through a great loss of her husband and her two children. So, Ruth found herself in a moral obligation to support her mother-in-law, and not only that, but to follow the God of Israel that she had known.
