The president of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader Corona had said that the coronavirus pandemic was controlled in the Dominican Republic according to information published on the website of the newspaper El País on December 26, 2020, in the web version of the newspaper. However, three days later, on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, he said that the cases had increased and that he would tighten mobility restrictions.
Decree 740-20, issued on the morning of December 30, 2020 by President Luis Abinader, eliminates, as of Thursday, December 31, the two hours of grace to move freely from 7 at night to 9 at night, for which the curfew begins at 7:00 pm.
Starting on January 1 through January 10, the curfew will begin at 5 in the afternoon and end at 5 in the morning, and will have two hours of free transit. On Saturday 2, Saturday 9, Sunday 3 and Sunday 10 January, the curfew will be from 12 noon to 5 in the morning. As we can see, the hours in which residents in the Dominican Republic can transit are considerably reduced.
With these new measures, employees or contractors of restaurants, pharmacies, grocery stores, etc can provide delivery services until 11:00 at night. From January 1 to 10, restaurants will not be able to receive customers to consume at their facilities.
Also, article 10 of the decree says textually “It is established that from January 1 to 10, 2021 the activities of different churches or religious denominations of all kinds cease”.
Yes, the churches must be closed and I imagine they will interrupt some religious service that is taking place anywhere, but I have never seen any effort from the authorities to prevent this:
If the measures are to be complied, it is only fair that everybody comply them. We hope that the military will put on their pants and close those types of activities that are done during curfew hours.
