Loving the Lord our God is the first commandment in the Bible. We cannot call ourselves Christians and not love God, it would be something totally contradictory.
The Bible says:
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (KJV)
How do we learn to love God? There is no formula for that, since the only thing that leads us to that love is the death of Christ for sinners like us. Jesus has died and risen for us, that is enough to lead us to love God with all our heart, soul and strength.
In the same way, we must teach our children why we should love God, what He has done for us, who He is.
We have a challenge with the verses we have just seen, since it is not simply about us knowing God, but about bringing that knowledge to our family, so that they also love God.
Let us love God for His great love for us, for giving His only Son on the cross of Calvary to redeem us from our sins.
