Some of the things that the Bible itself speaks to us is about promising and not fulfilling, because if you promise you have to comply because it is better not to promise because God does not like you to promise and not to fulfill.
Many people when they want to get something from God, begin to say “Lord, Lord I promise that I will be the best Christian” or “I will approach your ways, I will serve you forever”. But they promise so much that later they can not comply.
Sometimes we get so excited that, we begin to say that we will follow God. But we only do it because we want to receive something material, we want to solve our economic problems. After receiving, we forget those promises and do not comply.
The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.
Psalm 119:110 (KJV)
The book of Psalms tells us about the Psalmist David who followed the path and even having difficulty remained standing. His enemies were looking for a way to deviate him from God’s ways, but David never looked back.
God always listened to the prayer of this man, because this man never left God, even in his most terrible moments he was confident like a lion, he never stopped trusting that God would forsake him.
Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.
Psalm 119:111 (KJV)
The Psalmist David spoke of how wonderful the work of God was, he said that the testimony of God was his inheritance, implying that if he had joy it was because God and was his all.
He had great joy in the mighty wonders of God, his heart was always happy in the face of his tribulations, he faced everything with courage and trusting that God would always be with him.
I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end.
Psalm 119:112 (KJV)
This is a beautiful declaration that we must make before God, that is not simple wordiness, but that we say it from the heart and demonstrate it with facts, that when we promise something, we can also fulfill it. Let us be righteous before God and let us do things with love and fidelity above all, and let our heart be like that of the Psalmist David, joyful at all times.
