Blessed is he who listens to God

Our article will be based on some verses from chapter 8 of the book of Proverbs, which has 36 verses, which tell us about the excellence of wisdom. But in this aspect we are not talking about an earthly wisdom, rather a spiritual one.

Campbell Morgan said about this wonderful chapter:

“There is nothing or greater in all biblical literature, such as exposing the beauty and grace of that wisdom that has the fear of the Lord as its main part”.

Well, imagine, how many really wise men (earthly speaking) have not passed through this world? And how many men who have been considered reckless but are actually wise (spiritually)? Well, you can possess all the knowledge in the world, however, if you do not have the knowledge of the Lord, such wisdom is futile.

The author of Proverbs, our beloved Solomon, wrote:

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Proverbs 8:34-36 (KJV)

Solomon wrote this verse 34 as if wisdom itself was giving an exhortation, but the truth is that this is a beautiful way of writing. Here he talks about two types of people; he who listens to wisdom and turns to it, and he who stands before its gates in search of it.

It is the same that we have in our churches today, there are brothers who, if it were not for the fact that some study or knowledge is brought to them, they would not possibly worry, although, this type of brothers certainly goes to the call of wisdom. But there is another kind of Christian, and is the one who by himself, unaided, obeying God’s call, seeks that wisdom.

He who finds that wisdom will not simply find life, but will find something more valuable than life itself, the favor of the Lord. What is better than the Lord’s favor, which is not empty? The Lord’s favor is not like the seasons of the year, which are temporary, but it does not change its mind, it is always the same!

Now that you know the wisdom of the Lord, do not choose the bad things, do not prefer to love the things of this world rather than God, because they consequently brings death.
