Sometimes we tend to have the wrong idea of what living in the Spirit really is. We think that living in the Spirit is flying through the air, dividing the waters, bringing fire down from heaven, and performing a group of miracles. And being spiritual is not that, it is something much deeper, such as giving up our own desires to be crucified.
The apostle Paul wrote:
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Galatians 5:24-26
To walk in the Spirit is to love our neighbor, to love God above all, to renounce our own desires for a much greater plan than ours. To walk in the Spirit is to cast into the fire all those inappropriate desires that we have and live only for God and His grace.
Do you think you still have some of those desires even as a Christian? Give them up to be crucified, ask God to help you be faithful, then, remember that even though we are Christians we maintain a fight between the flesh and the Spirit and sometimes there are desires that want to dominate us, but if we have our trust in God we are more than conquerors.
