If the Lord is with you, you have nothing to fear

Without a doubt, sometimes we go through very difficult situations that diminish our faith. In those moments we must immediately go to our God to sustain us and increase our faith.

Let us not doubt that God is always with us, even if we fail Him, He remains with open arms to forgive and restore us. The power of God is magnificent and His mercy is so great that He forgives us and through it we are redeemed by our God.

If God is with you, you have nothing to fear, although the earth shakes, although thunders and storms come, do not fear, because Christ lives and is with you.

The central text of this article belongs to the most quoted psalm, and the verse that we will see gives us peace and hope to continue trusting in the Lord, believing that He will always be by our side:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

The previous verse only confirms what we have said throughout this article, that in the most adverse situation we should not fear because God is with us. Even on the way to darkness God is our guide and helps us to get out of that situation, so we should not fear.

“I will fear no evil”. Although the enemy of souls has plans to destroy us, let us remember that the Lord is with us and He helps us, so we should not fear any evil. Let us believe in the Lord, fear nothing, God is with us.

When the psalmist speaks about walking through the valley of the shadow of death, he is not denying the reality of suffering, pain, or fear. On the contrary, he acknowledges that there are moments when life leads us through dark paths, moments where the future seems uncertain and our strength feels insufficient. However, the great difference lies in who accompanies us on that path. Walking through the valley with God is not the same as walking alone.

Many believers mistakenly think that faith means the absence of trials, but Scripture shows us that faith is strengthened precisely in the midst of difficulties. God does not promise that we will never face valleys, but He does promise that He will be with us in each one of them. His presence is what gives us confidence, even when everything around us seems unstable.

The rod and the staff mentioned in the psalm represent guidance, correction, and protection. These were tools used by shepherds to care for their sheep, keeping them safe from danger and guiding them along the right path. In the same way, God uses His Word and His Spirit to guide us, correct us when necessary, and protect us from the traps of the enemy. This is why the psalmist says they comfort him.

In moments of fear, it is important to remember past experiences where God has been faithful. Looking back and recognizing how He has helped us before strengthens our trust for the present and the future. God does not change, and the same God who delivered us yesterday is the one who sustains us today.

Fear often tries to paralyze us, to make us doubt God’s promises and question His presence. But faith reminds us that God is greater than any circumstance we face. Even when our emotions fluctuate and our understanding is limited, God remains firm, faithful, and sovereign over all things.

Let us then choose to trust in the Lord, even in the darkest valleys of life. Let us cling to His promises, knowing that His presence is our greatest security. When God is with us, fear loses its power, and hope rises in our hearts. No matter how difficult the path may seem, we can walk forward with confidence, because our Shepherd walks with us.
