Being a good soldier of Christ is a wonderful thing, serving God is good and more than a blessing, we as soldiers of Jesus Christ every day are committed to doing God’s will.
What does a good soldier of Christ do? He cares about being faithful to God and serving Him with love, carrying His Word and being determined to set an example.
To be a soldier of Christ implies discipline, commitment, and perseverance. Just as an earthly soldier prepares himself daily for battle, the believer must prepare spiritually through prayer, reading the Word, and obedience to God. This preparation strengthens our faith and allows us to remain firm when trials, temptations, or discouragements come. The Christian life is not free from battles, but we are not alone in them; Christ Himself goes before us.
A good soldier of Christ understands that his loyalty is first and foremost to God. He does not allow himself to be distracted by things that pull him away from his calling. His desire is to please the One who enlisted him, knowing that everything he does should glorify God. This requires sacrifice, self-denial, and a constant willingness to submit our own will to the will of the Lord.
1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2 Timothy 2:1-2
Here we see the apostle Paul giving Timothy advice, encouraging him to instruct other people to teach others more in the Lord.
Paul reminds Timothy that strength does not come from human ability, but from the grace that is in Christ Jesus. This grace sustains us, teaches us, and empowers us to continue even when we feel weak. Being strong in grace means trusting fully in God and depending on Him in every circumstance.
The apostle also highlights the importance of teaching and discipleship. What we receive from God is not meant to stay only with us; it must be shared with others. A good soldier of Christ understands his responsibility to pass on sound teaching, helping others grow in faith so that they too can teach and strengthen more people. In this way, the work of God continues from generation to generation.
It is good that, if we are going to do something for the Lord, we do it from the heart and be willing to obey in all that the Lord commands us.
Serving God should never be done out of obligation or routine, but out of love and gratitude. When we serve from the heart, our actions reflect sincerity and faithfulness. Obedience is a key characteristic of a good soldier of Christ, because obedience shows trust in God and confidence in His guidance.
We must have good behavior, be patient, good workers, having love, being cautious, with a spirit of humility, meekness, temperance, goodness, being merciful.
These qualities are evidence of a life transformed by Christ. A soldier of Christ is not known only by his words, but by his conduct. Through patience and humility, we reflect Christ’s character. Through love and mercy, we become instruments of God’s grace to others. Our testimony speaks loudly when our actions align with the teachings of the Word.
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1 Corinthians 12:1
Paul in this chapter advises us not to ignore about spiritual gifts, because these lead us to do things right, to give our best to God and to do good works.
Spiritual gifts are given by God for the benefit of the church and for the edification of others. A good soldier of Christ seeks to understand and use these gifts wisely, always for God’s glory and not for personal recognition. Each believer has a role and a purpose within the body of Christ.
So let’s continue doing good in the name of the Lord, giving a good teaching wherever we go, no matter where we are, let’s do it in the name of the Lord.
Being a good soldier of Christ is a daily commitment. It is a call to remain faithful, to persevere in faith, and to serve with humility and love. When we walk in obedience and rely on God’s grace, we can be confident that He will guide us, strengthen us, and use our lives for His glory.
