To be new creatures in the Lord, we must do things right before Him, turn away from all that is not to His liking, and if we are children of Him, we must prove it.
The change in our lives comes from God, but something can also happen, is that everyone who comes at His feet, has to be obedient and shed everything that binds him to the deceptive world and the things that the enemy puts in order for us to be captives. God is the one who transforms the heart, but He also calls us to make firm and conscious decisions, to renounce what separates us from His will and to walk according to His truth.
We must have a new life in Jesus Christ, and when we talk about something new, it is about leaving all the old things and doing everything that the Holy Word of God commands us. This new life is not a superficial change or a temporary emotion, but a deep transformation that begins in the heart and is reflected in our thoughts, words, and actions. To be new means to live differently, to have new priorities, new desires, and a renewed way of seeing life.
Many people think that being a new creature only means attending church or having knowledge of Scripture, but the Word of God teaches us that true renewal goes far beyond that. It implies dying to our old self, to our sinful nature, and allowing Christ to reign in every area of our lives. This process requires humility, perseverance, and a daily dependence on God.
Let’s see what the Bible tells us about these things:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Here Paul speaks clearly to the Corinthians about leaving all these things, that is, being new creatures. This verse shows us that the change is real and evident when someone is in Christ. The old way of living, thinking, and acting no longer dominates our life. Instead, God begins a work of renewal that transforms us day by day.
What should we really do to become new creatures? It is not only about leaving old things, but enduring before God’s call, following the path that leads us to His presence. Endurance is essential, because the Christian life is not free from difficulties, temptations, or struggles. However, God gives us the strength to remain firm if we trust in Him and remain faithful to His Word.
And this is the call that has actually been made to us, so we must understand that in this world we will be attacked, we will be people who will have thoughts to leave the ways of God. The enemy constantly seeks to distract us, to make us doubt, and to pull us away from the truth. That is why it is vital to be rooted in Christ, grounded in His promises, and guided by the Holy Spirit.
That is why we must first of all be new people, prepared in the Lord, immersed in His Word so that when these contrary winds come, they will not take us. The Word of God strengthens us, corrects us, and shows us the right path. When we live according to Scripture, we are able to resist temptation and remain faithful even in difficult times.
Being a new creature also means learning to walk in obedience. Obedience is not a burden, but a response of love to God. When we obey Him, we show that we trust His wisdom and that we believe His ways are better than our own. Through obedience, our faith matures and our relationship with God grows stronger.
So, we must be subject to the Lord with all our heart, without looking back, but we can follow the Lord and His ways. Let us remember that God is faithful to complete the work He has begun in us. If we remain in Christ, seek Him daily, and allow Him to guide our steps, we will truly live as new creatures, reflecting His love, His grace, and His truth to the world.
