The Lord is the one who goes with you

The people of Israel were always cared for by the Lord, wherever this people stepped on was with the support of God who was with them.

In this case, the Bible says that Moses was already 120 years old and that is why he designates Joshua to follow God’s mission and purpose.

This moment marks an important transition in the history of Israel. Moses had been used by God in a powerful way to deliver the people from slavery in Egypt, guide them through the wilderness, and teach them the commandments of the Lord. However, God had determined that Moses would not cross the Jordan River. Even so, the mission of God would not stop, because His plans do not depend on a single person, but on His eternal will.

In chapter 31 of the book of Deuteronomy it says that Moses spoke these words to all Israel.

Moses did not abandon the people emotionally or spiritually. Instead, he encouraged them and reminded them that the Lord Himself would go before them. This shows us that leadership in God is not about personal glory, but about obedience and preparing others to continue the work. Moses had invested time in Joshua, teaching him, praying for him, and showing him what it meant to trust fully in God.

Let us remember that the Lord tells Moses that he could not pass from Jordan, but that Joshua, whom God had prepared with Moses, would be the person who would lead the people to the promised land. All nations that were against God and the people would be handed over to Joshua.

This situation teaches us that sometimes God changes seasons in our lives. One season may end, but another begins under His direction. Even when something seems difficult or painful, God is still working behind the scenes to fulfill His promises. Joshua was stepping into a great responsibility, but he was not doing it alone.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Deuteronomy 31:6

This is the promise that God makes to Joshua since he was the one who was going to lead the people of Israel, who together with the people would fight in the battles to be able to take possession of those lands.

These words were not only for Joshua, but also for the entire nation of Israel. God wanted them to understand that victory did not depend on their strength, numbers, or military strategy, but on His presence. The same God who opened the Red Sea and provided manna in the desert would now give them the land He had promised.

God tells Joshua to cheer up, strive and not be afraid, for God Himself was with him.

Fear is one of the greatest obstacles when we face new challenges. Joshua was about to confront strong nations, fortified cities, and uncertain situations. Yet God’s command was clear: do not be afraid. Courage in God is not the absence of fear, but the decision to trust Him despite fear.

God is the One who goes with us, let us not be afraid of anything, He does not forsake us, He does not let us fight alone, God will always come to our forehead, and this is what happened with Joshua, because he trusted the Lord.

In the same way, God continues to guide His people today. When we face transitions, responsibilities, or battles in our personal lives, we can remember this promise. God does not abandon those who trust Him. He goes before us, strengthens us, and sustains us. Just as Joshua relied on the Lord, we too are called to walk forward in faith, knowing that God remains faithful to His word.
