Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness

Today we meet different types of people, who only focus on seeking earthly things and forget about the spiritual.

We also see how people walk from one side to another, asking God to give them what they need, and after having achieved what they want, then they forget that they have stopped looking for spiritual things first. However, the Word says:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:33

After reading this verse, we understand the importance of seeking God first before other things, because when we focus on seeking God, other things will come in addition, as we just read in the Word of God. Jesus did not say that our needs would be ignored, but that they would be added when our priorities are correct. The problem today is not having needs, but placing those needs above God.

Many people live with anxiety and constant worry because their hearts are tied to material things. They believe that peace comes from having money, possessions, or stability, but when these things fail or disappear, their peace also vanishes. God never intended for us to live enslaved to worry, but free through trust in Him.

What good is it for us to have everything and that our life is lost by loving earthly things more than spiritual things? Here we will quote other Bible verses that tell us about this:

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Matthew 6:25

These words spoken by Jesus are very true. This tells us that we should not be afraid of what tomorrow brings, of what we will have to eat or dress, and this is because our lives are more important than each of these things. The Lord wants us to focus on spiritual things rather than earthly things, because spiritual things are eternal, while earthly things are temporary.

When we allow fear to dominate our hearts, we stop trusting in God’s provision. Fear makes us depend on our own strength, but faith teaches us to rest in God’s care. The Lord knows our limitations, our weaknesses, and our daily struggles, and that is why He invites us to trust Him completely.

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

Matthew 6:32

The Word tells us that the Lord has control of everything we need, and that we should not worry about tomorrow’s cares, since He knows our needs. God is never surprised by our circumstances. He knows what we need even before we ask, and He provides according to His perfect will and timing.

It is good that every day we be confident in the Lord, and believe that He will supply our precariousness. Trusting God daily strengthens our faith and reminds us that we are not alone. But as soon as we stop trusting in Him, and start looking for earthly things as our source of security, then our trust and our faith begin to weaken, and we will no longer walk with the same confidence.

That is why it is of greater importance that every day we be attentive to seek God before everything that surrounds us. Seeking God is not only praying in moments of need, but also living in obedience, reading His Word, and aligning our decisions with His will. When God is first, our lives remain firm even in difficult times.

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Matthew 6:26

Jesus uses this example to remind us of God’s constant care. If God takes care of the birds, how much more will He take care of His children. We are valuable to Him, and our lives are in His hands. Therefore, let us seek the kingdom of God first, trusting that everything else will be added according to His perfect love.
