The gospel according to Matthew tells of the moment when Jesus talked with His disciples and taught them about faith.
Many people think faith is not necessary but the Bible itself teaches that without faith and love we cannot please God, but we see that the first thing that was mentioned was faith, since faith is what allows us to believe in the Lord with all our heart, helps us every day to trust in God and to believe that some day what we all have long awaited will be manifested: The coming of our beloved Lord Jesus Christ.
Faith in the Lord is what keeps us standing, it allows us to look for Him day by day. It helps us to pass those trials that come every day to scourge our spirit so that we faint and stop believing in the Lord.
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Matthew 17:20
In the previous verse Jesus tells His disciples clearly that with a little faith they can do great things. We can clearly see that faith in the Lord is so powerful that it will help us move everything that wants to trouble us in the Lord. All walls that are laid will be torn down, we can resist all trials in the Lord because we faithfully believe in Him. That is why we pray every day for God to increase our faith. Remember that nothing is impossible for Him.
Faith is not simply a positive thought or a human effort to believe that everything will go well. Biblical faith is complete trust in God, even when circumstances seem contrary to His promises. Faith teaches us to wait patiently, to persevere when answers do not come immediately, and to remain firm when our strength seems to be exhausted. Through faith, we learn that God is working even when we do not see clear results.
The disciples themselves struggled with faith, just as we do today. They walked with Jesus, saw His miracles, and heard His teachings, yet there were moments when fear and doubt overcame them. This teaches us that faith is a process that grows and matures over time. God does not reject us for having weak faith; instead, He invites us to come closer to Him so that our faith may be strengthened through prayer, obedience, and constant dependence on His Word.
When Jesus speaks about faith as small as a mustard seed, He is not minimizing faith, but showing its true power. A mustard seed is tiny, yet it contains life and potential. In the same way, genuine faith, even when it seems small, carries divine power because it is placed in an almighty God. It is not the size of our faith that matters, but the One in whom our faith is placed.
In our daily lives, mountains may appear in different forms: fear, sickness, uncertainty, lack, or discouragement. These mountains can seem immovable, but Jesus assures us that faith gives us the ability to face them with confidence. Faith does not deny the existence of problems; rather, it acknowledges that God is greater than any obstacle we may encounter.
For this reason, we must continually nourish our faith. Reading the Scriptures, meditating on God’s promises, and remembering His faithfulness in the past are essential practices for spiritual growth. Each testimony, each answered prayer, and each moment of divine help becomes a reminder that God is trustworthy and that His power has no limits.
Let us therefore ask the Lord every day to strengthen our faith. Let us not rely on our own understanding, but fully trust in His wisdom and guidance. Faith anchors us in hope and keeps our eyes fixed on Christ, especially as we await His glorious return. Holding firmly to this faith, we can walk forward with confidence, knowing that with God, nothing is impossible.
