Jesus walking in different places spreading His word to be known and so that people could also be saved and forgiven of their sins.
The Master at that time was surrounded by a crowd, He begins to speak to people about adultery, giving them to understand that this was not right and that they should take care of such thing.
That is why in the Gospel of Matthew we find several biblical verses where Jesus mentioned these words about adultery and how we can avoid it.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 5:27-28
Today many do not take care of this part, because, by not listening and not reading the Bible, fall into these evils. One of the main methods that the enemy can use for you to fall is to use your weaknesses against you.
When you are weak with something, the enemy takes that very thing to put it before you and make you sin against God.
And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Matthew 5:29
We should not take the previous verse literally. What the previous verse wants to leave said is that we should separate from us everything that is not pleasing to God, that we avoid having contact with what satan puts before us to make us war. One of the greatest temptations of a man is a woman, because by her attractiveness we begin to look and look until we fall into temptation.
Jesus, with these words, was not teaching self-harm, but rather emphasizing how serious sin is and how far we must be willing to go in order to preserve our spiritual life. The Lord points to the heart of the problem: desire that is allowed to grow unchecked. When desire is not confronted in time, it takes root in the heart and later manifests itself in actions that dishonor God and damage our relationship with Him.
That is why it is so important for believers to be vigilant in their daily walk. We live in a world that constantly promotes lust, immorality, and impurity as something normal. Through images, media, and social networks, temptation is placed before our eyes every day. If we are not firm in our faith and grounded in the Word of God, it becomes easier to fall into what seems harmless at first but ends up enslaving the soul.
And since we are talking about looking, what organ of the body is responsible for that function? It is the eye, and in the Gospel according to Matthew we find a part related to this theme, which Jesus mentions:
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Matthew 6:22
The Lord teaches us that what we allow through our eyes directly affects our spiritual condition. When our eyes are focused on what is pure, righteous, and pleasing to God, our inner being is strengthened. The eye becomes a channel through which light enters, guiding our thoughts, desires, and decisions according to God’s will.
However, when the eyes are constantly exposed to impurity and sinful desires, darkness begins to take over the heart. Little by little, sensitivity to sin is lost, and what once seemed wrong begins to appear acceptable. This is why Jesus warns us with such seriousness, calling us to examine not only our actions, but also our thoughts and intentions.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Matthew 6:23
This darkness is dangerous because it blinds the believer and distances him from God. It weakens prayer, diminishes the desire to read Scripture, and cools the love for holiness. For this reason, we must constantly ask the Lord to cleanse our hearts and guard our eyes, so that we may walk in His light and not be overtaken by darkness.
Let us take care of all the evil that is around us, because day after day the enemy besieges us to make us sin against God. Let us seek strength in prayer, wisdom in the Word, and accountability among brothers in faith. Only by staying close to Christ can we overcome temptation and live a life that honors God in holiness and obedience.
