Fishers of men

Wherever Jesus went he watered the seed, which was the Word of life, these faithful and true words, which transform all who receive it. Because Jesus is the bread of life and without that bread of life we can not be transformed by the Lord.

The ministry of Jesus was never limited to a single place or a single type of person. Everywhere He went, He sowed the Word of God with love, patience, and authority. That Word was not empty speech, but living truth capable of changing hearts, restoring lives, and giving eternal hope to those who listened with faith. The seed that Jesus planted continues to bear fruit even today, because the Word of God never loses its power.

The word of God says that Jesus is the bread that gives life, that restores the afflicted, raises the fallen, and that Jesus came sent by the Father to fish men so that they know God and can be saved through His holy and true Words.

When we speak of Jesus as the bread of life, we are speaking of complete spiritual nourishment. Just as physical bread sustains the body, Christ sustains the soul. Without Him, man remains empty, tired, and without direction. But when Christ enters a life, everything begins to change from the inside out.

4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

Luke 5:4-5

This was a powerful teaching with those two brothers, these men had all day cast the net, but they had not caught anything, then the Master comes and sends them to cast the net into the sea. They did it even though they had not caught anything all day, and they saw the miracle Jesus did with them.

Here we see something very important: obedience that goes beyond human logic. Peter was an experienced fisherman and knew the sea well, yet he chose to trust the word of Jesus over his own experience. This act of faith opened the door for God to manifest His power in a supernatural way.

And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

Luke 5:6

The miracle was not only the abundance of fish, but the revelation of who Jesus truly was. In that moment, they understood that their strength and knowledge were not enough. It was God who brought the increase. When we obey the Lord, even when circumstances seem unfavorable, He is able to do far more than we imagine.

When we start looking for the Lord, our way of thinking changes, because when Christ comes our life everything is different, these men seeing this miracle decided to follow Jesus, because they knew that with their own strength nothing would emerge from nothing.

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matthew 4:19

The call of Jesus is always clear and purposeful. He does not call us to remain the same, but to be transformed and to participate in His work. Becoming fishers of men means carrying the message of salvation to others, just as Christ first reached us.

And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

Matthew 4:20

Immediately the Master made the call, they did not think about it and they went with Him to be fishers of men, and that was how each one of the disciples was called, leaving all to follow Jesus.

This decision reflects total surrender. Leaving the nets behind symbolized leaving their old life, their security, and their personal plans. Following Jesus always requires trust and commitment, but it also leads to a life with true purpose.

That is why it is good to recognize that when God calls you, you must respond, listen to His voice, just as these two men were obedient, because He knows everything about you, He knows what is good for you and what does not suit you. God is in control of everything, be obedient and do not ignore His voice. He is your salvation.

The Lord God created man and woman and put in them a free will to decide what they wanted to do, so our forefathers acted freely in the Garden. The Bible tells us how the Devil incited them to act against their Creator, as he first had done with Him. They were seduced and fell into sin.

This liberty caused all people on the earth to be enemies of God and separate from the glory of God. Besides, from the moment they disobeyed the Lord, their minds and spirits changed and they were prone to do evil things against God’s will.

But that was not God’s purpose when He created mankind. And, even at that moment, he had put forward a solution for this problem:
The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God.
It “pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
    (1 Corinthians 1:21)

God, the Lord Jesus Christ, chose some believers to be fishers of men, to preach the Gospel of peace:

“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

The apostle Paul tells the church in Rome:

“For whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?
and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?
and how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:14)

We all ought to give a reason of our faith with our words and a good behaviour, but there are some believers who are called to preach the gospel of peace…

“… as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
    (Romans 10:15)

Let’s pray and experience how God leads us all to bring good news of salvation
