Joined together as brothers

Has there ever been any kind of contention in your congregation? That happens, and in the churches it has always happened, even Paul admonished the Corinthians for this practice. But something important is that we should know is the fact that these things happen does not mean that it is the normality of the church and that it is passed as good.

We are the Church of Christ, the body of the Lord, and we must behave as such. One of the most important commandments is: “You will love your neighbor as yourself,” and when we have strife in the church, we deviate from this commandment.

Paul told the Corinthian church:

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

1 Corinthians 1:10

Paul asks the Corinthians not to have divisions among them, but to be united. Paul knew well how was the beginning of the first church. The Bible says that they were all “unanimous together”. That was the model of the church, and it was not good to destroy it, so Paul insisted that they had to walk in unity.

The church is not a social club where everyone thinks differently. And although it is true that we all have our own mind, we must persecute the mind of Christ so that in the end everyone is bound under the same thought, which is that of Christ.
