The gospel is the power of God

The teaching of the apostle Paul in telling us that the gospel is the power of God unfolds a high gamut of spiritual seasons when we understand the life, suffering, and transformation of the apostle. Many people today read Paul as if he wrote from the comfort of an office, surrounded by peace and stability, but the truth is the opposite. For the most part, the apostle wrote from a prison cell, wounded, persecuted, chained, and deprived of comforts. Yet, under all these difficulties, Paul never ceased to believe—firmly and passionately—that the gospel is the power of God. And through this article, we invite you to believe the same, not in a superficial or emotional way, but in the deep and profound way Paul meant it.

The Testimony Behind Paul’s Words

When we read the writings of Paul, we must remember that his convictions were not formed in comfort but in adversity. Every statement he made concerning Christ was tested through suffering. He endured imprisonments, beatings, rejection, and countless dangers because he refused to abandon the truth he had received from the Lord. This gives tremendous weight to his declaration that the gospel is the power of God. He was not repeating a religious slogan; he was proclaiming a truth he had personally experienced.

Many believers today face challenges that can cause discouragement. Some struggle with family difficulties, financial pressures, health concerns, or spiritual battles. Paul’s example teaches us that the power of the gospel is not dependent on favorable circumstances. The gospel remains powerful whether we are experiencing victory or walking through trials. God’s truth does not change according to our situation.

Do you remember who Paul was before becoming an apostle? Paul was called Saul, and he was the greatest persecutor of the church in his time. He carried many brothers and sisters to death, he terrorized the early believers, and he did all of this believing that he was serving God. On top of that, he was a Pharisee of Pharisees, instructed at the feet of Gamaliel—one of the greatest teachers of the law. In other words, Paul was a highly educated man, a strict observer of the law, an intellectual, and someone who carried great authority and reputation in Judaism. If anyone had earthly credentials, prestige, influence, or academic excellence, it was Saul of Tarsus.

The Radical Transformation of Saul

The conversion of Saul remains one of the clearest demonstrations of divine grace in all Scripture. Few people would have imagined that the fiercest enemy of Christianity would one day become one of its greatest defenders. Yet God specializes in doing what seems impossible. The transformation of Saul shows that no heart is too hard, no past is too dark, and no person is too far from God’s reach.

This truth should encourage believers to continue praying for loved ones who appear resistant to the gospel. Human reasoning often focuses on outward appearances, but God sees the heart. Just as He intervened in Saul’s life, He continues to work in the lives of people today. The same grace that transformed Saul into Paul is still available for everyone who places their trust in Jesus Christ.

However, all of this—fame, titles, reputation, knowledge—Paul had to leave behind. He considered it all as nothing compared to the glory of knowing Christ. The same man who once persecuted the church became its greatest defender. And now this transformed man, who had lost everything for Christ, was saying with power and conviction:

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Romans 1:16-17

The Meaning of the Power of God

What did Paul mean when he described the gospel as the power of God? He was referring to God’s ability to accomplish what humanity could never accomplish on its own. Human beings can educate themselves, improve habits, and achieve impressive accomplishments, but none of these things can remove sin or reconcile a person to God. Only the gospel can accomplish that miracle.

The power of the gospel is seen in its ability to bring spiritual life where there was spiritual death. It awakens hearts that were indifferent toward God. It produces repentance, faith, hope, and transformation. Throughout history, countless testimonies have confirmed this reality. Men and women from every culture and background have encountered Christ and experienced genuine change.

The Challenge of Living by Faith

Do you think it was easy in Paul’s time to say, “The just shall live by faith”? Absolutely not. Paul lived in a world full of persecution, rejection, philosophical debates, and religious opposition. The message of the gospel confronted both Jews and Gentiles. It challenged the pride of the religious elite and exposed the emptiness of pagan culture. But the apostle did not care what could happen to him. His life had already been surrendered entirely to the One who called him. He valued little what he might lose, because he knew the treasure of what he had gained.

Living by faith continues to be challenging today. Modern culture often encourages people to trust only what they can see, measure, or control. Faith, however, calls believers to trust God even when circumstances seem uncertain. Faith looks beyond temporary situations and rests in the promises of God.

The phrase “the just shall live by faith” is not merely a theological concept; it is a daily reality. Every believer is called to trust God’s wisdom above human understanding. Faith sustains us during seasons of waiting, strengthens us during trials, and gives us confidence when the future appears unclear.

The Gospel and the Righteousness of God

Paul recognized very well that the power was not in his lexicon, in his eloquence, or in his intellectual ability. His power did not come from his academic background, nor from his Jewish heritage, nor from the admiration of men. He knew that true power was found only in the Gospel: the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That message—the message of redemption, forgiveness, transformation, and eternal life—is what has shaken nations, changed hearts, restored families, healed the broken, and turned sinners into saints for more than two thousand years.

The righteousness of God revealed in the gospel is one of the most beautiful truths in Scripture. Humanity cannot earn salvation through good works or religious effort. God’s standard is perfect holiness, and every person falls short of that standard. Yet through Christ, God provides righteousness as a gift to those who believe.

This means that salvation is based entirely on the finished work of Jesus Christ. The believer stands before God not because of personal merit but because of the righteousness of Christ. This truth removes pride and fills the heart with gratitude. It reminds us that salvation belongs to the Lord from beginning to end.

Why the Gospel Never Loses Its Power

Do you believe that same power is still found in the gospel today? Many people have underestimated the gospel. Some think it is only a historical message, others think it is outdated, and others believe that people need something more “modern.” But the gospel does not age, it does not lose effect, and it does not weaken. It remains the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. It is the only message capable of saving the human soul.

Cultures change, technologies evolve, and societies develop new ways of thinking, but the deepest needs of the human heart remain unchanged. People continue searching for meaning, forgiveness, peace, hope, and purpose. The gospel answers each of these needs because it addresses humanity’s greatest problem: separation from God.

For more than two thousand years, the message of Christ has crossed languages, borders, and civilizations. Empires have risen and fallen, but the gospel continues advancing because its power comes from God and not from human institutions.

Our Responsibility as Believers

Every believer has been entrusted with the responsibility of sharing the message of Christ. This does not necessarily mean standing before large crowds. Many opportunities to witness occur in ordinary daily life. Through our actions, words, attitudes, and decisions, we have the privilege of reflecting the character of Christ to those around us.

The world desperately needs hope, and true hope is found only in Jesus Christ. People may seek temporary solutions in various places, but lasting peace comes through reconciliation with God. This is why the church must remain faithful to proclaiming the gospel generation after generation.

Standing Firm in a Changing World

The pressures facing Christians today may differ from those faced by Paul, but the call remains the same. Believers are called to stand firm in truth, walk in faith, and trust in God’s promises. While opinions change and cultural trends come and go, God’s Word remains eternal.

Paul’s example reminds us that courage comes from knowing Christ. When believers understand the greatness of the gospel, fear begins to lose its grip. Confidence grows because faith is anchored not in human strength but in God’s power.

Dear brothers, let us walk in the conviction that Paul had. Let us not be ashamed of the gospel. Let us preach Christ with our lives, with our words, and with our actions. Let us stand firm, knowing that we carry the most powerful message in the universe. And above all, let us live by faith, just as the Scriptures say. The world needs that gospel now more than ever. Let us go forward and never be ashamed of Him.

May we never forget that the gospel which transformed Saul into Paul is the same gospel that continues transforming lives today. It is still the power of God, still the source of salvation, and still the message that every generation needs to hear. Let us therefore proclaim it boldly, live it faithfully, and trust completely in the One who gave it to us.

  2. The gospel is the power of God
    =====================
It is a mystery, I mean something we can’t understand, how the wise God Creator of all things, even created human beings perfect, but He let them rebel against Him. He had to punish them, to forgive them later by the power of the Gospel. But He could create that perfect man without any possibility of change.

The Lord God wanted to make a free man and a free woman, a couple for his Honor and Glory, and He did it.

The freedom of human beings lead them to be expelled from Paradise, separate from their Creator, who loves them. But he arranged for a way to attract them to Him again: the Gospel of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ.

The apostle Paul was one of the first people that the Lord God, the Father, chose to preach the love of God to everyone who believes, starting with
the Jews, God’s elected people, and afterward continuing with other people like the Greek, the English or any nation and race of the World.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.’”
    Romans 1:16-17

Everyone who is born of a woman is an enemy of God, but He is love and he does not want any to perish; but He gave sinners a Way of salvation, to manifest He is just and Good:
“The just shall live by faith”
The way is Jesus, the saviour sent to attract to God all who believe in Him.

“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, and your house.”
    (Acts 16:31}

May all of us be grateful to God, the Father, that gave us to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that we can live by faith in Him.
