The world is not our home

Something that should concern us strongly as believers in Jesus Christ is that the world can not, should not and is not our home. We belong to a kingdom that is not of this world, we belong to a celestial citizenship that we firmly hope. And we should not shrink from this knowing that the world is not our home, and that being in the world, sometimes we want to adapt or get used to the system of this world and this should not be our way of thinking.

We have as an example the prophets in the old testament and the apostles in the new testament, our beloved primitive church, and beyond all our Lord Jesus Christ, who did not esteem this world, who hoped for something better and never got used to it, nor adapted to this world. Did you know that the worst thing that can happen to a believer is to feel very comfortable in this world?

One of my favorite passages in the Scriptures is Hebrews 11, since it speaks to us of men of God who had an unshakeable faith and that teaches us not to faint and even in the midst of weakness stand firm.

14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.

15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.

16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

Hebrews 11:14-16

We are pilgrims and foreigners on this earth, the Scriptures again and again tell us that we are not of this beloved world, and this passage teaches us a lot about it, these people did not wait on earthly things, because they had a vision beyond and it was the heavenly one. Has this world replaced your vision about God? Then it’s time to get it back and start living for eternity and let our dream and priority be God.

We may take a lesson from Hebrews 11: it tells us how Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that were Israel’s forefathers, stayed in tabernacles or tents. They did not build a solid fixed house because they felt strangers in the country: they looked for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Jesus, our Lord, said to his disciples:
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
