Praise for the eternal mercy of the Lord

Every day that we get up from our beds we should thank God, because He allows us to see the sun shine once again, because He gives breath to our lungs and strength to our bodies, and because everything we enjoy—no matter how simple it seems—is a demonstration of His goodness. The very fact that we can stand, breathe, walk, think, and live is not a product of chance, but a gift from the Lord, who in His mercy grants us one more day of life.

There is always a reason to give thanks to God. Even when days are difficult, even when the burden feels heavy, even when tears roll down our face, gratitude is still appropriate because God remains faithful. For this reason, we must learn to open our lips and say: “Thank You, Lord,” praising His glory and majesty, recognizing Him as King, Lord, and Creator. We must praise Him for His greatness, for His wonders, for His kindness, and for His eternal mercy, which is renewed each morning without fail.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 136:1

In Psalm 150 we find a universal call to worship—a mandate not limited to a group of people or a single nation. This psalm summons everything on earth, everything in the heavens, and everything under the earth to praise the name of the Lord. It mentions instruments, songs, dances, the sanctuary, and the firmament, concluding with a powerful phrase that encompasses all creation: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” This is the purpose of our existence: worshiping the One who gave us life.

Oh, give thanks to the God of gods!
For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 136:2

Verses 1 and 2 of Psalm 136 insist repeatedly on the same truth: God’s mercy endures forever. This repetition is not accidental; it is a reminder to our hearts that His goodness never ends, that His compassion is not based on our achievements, and that His love is not temporary. We stand firm in difficulties because the mercies of God sustain us. If we are alive today, if we have hope, if we can pray, if we can worship, it is because His mercy continues to uphold us.

Sometimes we forget that everything we possess—life, strength, provision, peace—comes from Him. We often get lost in the rush of life, overwhelmed by responsibilities and pressures, and we forget to stop and reflect on the countless benefits He pours over us daily. Gratitude helps realign our hearts with eternal truths and silences the complaints that our flesh wants to raise. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, because in doing so we acknowledge His hand in all things.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 136:3

Remember that we should glorify only Him and give honor only to His name. There is no one else who can help us with such compassion, no one else who sustains us with such faithfulness, no one else whose mercy renews itself every morning. He alone is God—there is no other beside Him, no rival, no equal. He sits in the heavens, sees the works of our hands, knows our thoughts, and still loves us with deep and eternal affection.

It is by His love and great mercy that we exist. If He withdrew His hand for even a moment, everything would fall apart, but His faithfulness keeps creation standing. We must then lift our hearts in gratitude and declare: “To the Lord belongs the glory, the praise, the majesty, and the power.” Everything is from Him, everything is sustained by Him, and everything will ultimately return to Him.

Beloved, let us make gratitude a daily discipline. When we wake up, when we work, when we rest, when we laugh, and even when we cry—let us thank the Lord. Gratitude transforms the heart, strengthens faith, and opens our eyes to see the goodness of God in every detail of life. Blessed be the name of the Lord, for His mercy truly endures forever. Amen.

All people of the earth, his creatures, animals and plants, all his Creation…
May them give Glory to the Lord.
