Obey our fathers and mothers

From the first chapter of proverbs we are stressed to obey our father and our mother. The verses we show below about obeying our fathers and mothers are so clear that they do not need explanation:

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

3 For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

Consequences of doing wrong to your parents

If you thought that there were no people capable of harming their father and mother, you should know that yes, there are people who do such a thing:

There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

Proverbs 30:11

But they will have their reward according to their actions:

He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

Proverbs 19:26

Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Proverbs 20:20

Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

Proverbs 28:24

The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Proverbs 30:17

Much curse will be for those who despise the good advice of their parents and make them evil thinking that this is fine.

The joy of the father and the mother of a righteous

When a father and a mother have a righteous son, that is joy for them:

24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
