The love that surpasses knowledge

Surpass is exceed a marked limit, going beyond what is needed. For example, if you pour more liquid than a container can hold, the liquid that does not fit spills. So, we say that you surpassed the amount of liquid that could be put into that container. The love of God exceeds all knowledge, all science, all human understanding, and that love is that God wants us to be overflowing.

The love of God surpasses all knowledge, and this is more than true, because if we reflect on that, we understand that God has poured out His love for us without deserving it. He has loved us with such a sublime love that it leaves us amazed, humbled, and grateful. No human reasoning can fully grasp the depth of this love; no philosophical explanation can contain it; no scientific system can measure it. The love of God is something we can experience deeply but never fully comprehend.

Augustine said:

“God loves each of us as if there was only one of us, so we should worship God as the only true God.”

This is the simple truth. God, as Father, loves us with great dedication. He does not forget His love for any of us. He has the same attention, compassion, and care for each individual as if we were the only person in existence. His love surpasses all knowledge because it does not depend on our actions, merits, or abilities. He loves because His nature is love. He loves because He has chosen to love us. And He loves with an eternal, unchanging, and perfect love.

The apostle Paul wrote:

17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,

18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:17-19

Paul’s prayer is that believers may be “rooted and established in love,” because love is the foundation of our relationship with God. He desires that the church may grasp, even in part, the magnitude of Christ’s love: its width that embraces the world, its length that lasts forever, its height that lifts us to heaven, and its depth that reaches even the most broken soul. This love surpasses knowledge—it is too glorious and infinite for the human mind to fully understand. Yet God invites us to know it, to experience it, and to be filled with the fullness of God.

What is love? Love is not something that can be defined simply with a dictionary. True love is God Himself. The greatest demonstration of this love was shown when He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins when we were lost and had no hope. God did not ask for anything in return. He did not wait for us to be good or worthy. He justified us when we were completely condemned. This is the love of God that exceeds all knowledge!

We pray to God to keep us full of this fullness in Him, that we never forget what He has done for us, and that we can likewise speak to the world of that love of God that surpasses all understanding. May our lives be testimonies of this overflowing love. May our words reflect His grace, and may our actions reveal the depth of His compassion. For when we live rooted in His love, we reflect the very heart of God.

    Anything we may think about love at time to compare with
    another love is a pure theory. We know about mother’ s love, for instance, and we can think there is not any love as that of a mother may feel for the babe in arms born of her bowels, but the news inform us sometimes, as a mother forsakes her babe in arms or throws him in the bin.

    This may be an understandable love, but the apostle Paul tells us about another love which we need to have power to grasp on: the love of God in the person of Christ. He says we… “may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
    Ephesians 3:18-19

    The love of Christ surpasses our knowledge of things, these we can see, feel or understand, but we are advised to beg the Lord for receiving the power to grasp on such a knowledge in all its dimensIons.

    Really we need power from the Spirit to know this love so that we may be filled with the measure of all fullness of God.

    Who are interested in receiving this power? Those who love the Lord Jesus Christ indeed.

    May we pray the Lord God to consider his goodness and wish to love his Only begotten Son, that loved us with this love which surpasses all knowledge.
