We are highly privileged people for having received the gospel and the grace of God. We are very privileged that this message has reached our ears, this wonderful message that the people who lived under the law did not have the opportunity to listen. And it is that God had prepared all this beforehand for those who love Him.
The apostle Paul speaks about this to the Corinthians, a city that stood out for seeking knowledge and more that they had an eloquent preacher named Apollos, of whom the Bible tells us that he was powerful in the Scriptures and eloquent in words (Acts 18). But Paul again and again made the Corinthians understand that it was not a question of speaking with eloquence and much rhetoric, but that the message of which he spoke went beyond the knowledge that a city like Corinthians sought. And that is why Paul says on one occasion, “I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God.” The gospel is the only message in humanity that has power by itself.
Paul wrote:
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2:6-10
The gospel is not human wisdom and the apostle highlights this in verse 6 when he says, “We have spoken wisdom among those who have matured, and wisdom not of this world”. The gospel is a wisdom that goes beyond what the Greeks sought, the gospel is simply God’s power for the salvation of the soul, and this is a message that the ancients did not receive, yet God has allowed our eyes to be opened with the light of the gospel and we give glory to God for it.
And the apostle also says, “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, nor ascended into the heart of man, which God hath prepared for them that love him”. What do you think the apostle is talking about? He’s just talking about the revelation of the gospel. We had hear that message that ears did not hear, because God had prepared that in advance for those who love Him. Glory to God for it!
