I have hidden your word in my heart

In the book of John we find ourselves with a commandment that Jesus left us for each one of us to carry in our hearts, which is His word and the things we must do.

We must receive this commandment with joy in each of our hearts, not bitterly, but accept with love this commandment that God has entrusted to us to be good stewards.

If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

John 15:10

In the previous verse Jesus urges us to keep His words by carrying them in the heart and abiding in the love of the Lord, being righteous before all. Just as He has kept His Father’s commandments, He wants us to keep them and to abide in His true love.

When we keep the words of the Lord in our hearts, we avoid sinning, committing injustice, practicing anything that is not pleasing to the Lord, as Psalm 119:11 tells us.

I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.

In this verse we can discover a great truth and is that if we keep His Word in our hearts, we will not sin against God.

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

John 15:11

Something we have to remember is that, if we decide to keep His words in each one of our hearts, we will do it from the bottom of our heart, because those words will fill the void that was in our hearts, and fill us with love.

When we embrace the command of Christ and choose to treasure His Word within us, something extraordinary begins to happen: the heart is softened, the mind is renewed, and the will is aligned with heaven. The commandments of Christ are not heavy burdens—rather, they are the path to true freedom. Obedience to His Word is not a chain, but the key that opens the door to joy, peace, and spiritual clarity. Many people believe that obeying God is restrictive, but the opposite is true: every step of obedience breaks chains, heals wounds, and leads us into the fullness of His presence. Christ did not give commandments to oppress us but to liberate us from the power of sin and guide us toward the abundant life that flows from His love.

The beautiful thing about keeping His Word is that it produces an inner transformation that no human effort can achieve. The more we meditate on the teachings of Jesus, the more our thoughts begin to resemble His, our decisions conform to His will, and our desires change. This is why Jesus connects obedience with remaining in His love: a heart anchored in the love of Christ naturally seeks to obey Him. His love purifies motives, strengthens weak hands, lifts the discouraged, and empowers the believer to walk in righteousness. The joy that Jesus promises—“that your joy may be complete”—is not a superficial emotion, but a deep and lasting delight rooted in communion with God. Obedience is not merely duty; it is the pathway to divine joy.

Furthermore, keeping His commandments protects us from the traps and deceptions of the world. A heart full of the Word becomes a guarded fortress, where temptation loses its power and the lies of the enemy are exposed. Just as the psalmist declared, storing Scripture in the heart is a shield against sin. It lights our path when we are confused, sustains us when we are weak, and comforts us when sorrow comes. The believer who clings to the Word becomes like a tree planted by rivers of living water—unmoved by storms and fruitful in every season. Therefore, let us continue guarding His words with reverence and affection, knowing that every commandment is a gift intended to lead us into the fullness of His joy, His love, and His eternal purpose for our lives.

“If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15:10

We have only Jesus’s words to know about Him. Through them we have fellowship with our Lord. It is by them and by praying that our soul receives spiritual blessings, but we must keep them in our mind and inside us, as the Bible tells: in our hearts. This is the way we can remain in His love, near our Lord Jesus thinking about his commands, trying to follow his steps.

So did He with His Father’s commands, being obedient to his Father until the end of his life here, on the earth.

“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the Cross.” Philippians 2:8

We must imitate the Lord so that we remain with him, in his love being obedient, as He was in fashion as a man, without leaving his divinity.

May the Lord God make us remain in Jesus and increase our love to Him. Amen.
