By your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned

The Christian must every day take care of what is going to come out of his mouth, because there are words that can hurt. This is why we can hear a saying that says “think before you speak”.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

Matthew 12:35

When Jesus left the place, a large crowd followed Him, they wanted to hear the message of the Master, who taught all these people that all blasphemy that man committed against the son of man can be forgiven, but that there is something that has no forgiveness, and it is blasphemy with the Holy Spirit.

It is for this reason we must take into account everything we are going to say, because as Jesus explained, that when man lied, blasphemed, criticized, this could be forgiven. But to speak evil of the Holy Spirit is a sin that is not forgiven.

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

Matthew 12:36

We must also bear in mind that each of the words that come out of our mouths are taken into account by God, because, as it says in the previous verse, one day we will have to appear before Him to give an account of the words that have come from our mouths

This is why Jesus calls attention to all those who were being idle, so that they would listen to the message, and so that each one would be careful with their words.

For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

Matthew 12:37

Through these words Jesus advised the people to speak good words so that they could be justified on the day of judgment, but we already know that everyone who utters words of destruction will be condemned on that great day.

  1. Lord my words have got me in so much trouble, when I’m anxious and frustrated I forget all about you standing firm for me. I’m so sorry that you hear this unsavoury mess when I’m having a tantrum. You know, I kid myself that there’s a hiding place where you don’t see. I know that is not true, you are by my side and are living in me. I’m so sorry, please help me be more like you , give me peace and understanding that when things don’t go my way, it’s because it’s my fault nobody else’s, no matter what is said and done. Lord you are teaching me that your plans are your plans and your will be done
Lord Jesus I’m sorry, thank you for everything you’ve done for me, thank you for your un-ending grace and love that is beyond my comprehension but not beyond my feeling. Jesus I love you, I’m sorry, help me control my temper and my mouth. Spirit within me teach me to think before I speak

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.”
    Matthew 12:35

The Lord says: “a good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him”
We ought to think about what Jesus means by “good man”. Who is a good man?
A young rich said to Him: Good Master, and Jesus said to him that “only God is good”.

Is there in the World any good man? No, only God is good.
    The apostle Paul tells us:
“There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one.” Romans 3:11-12.

When the Spirit of God works in us, we believe in Christ, and confess our sins, our soul is changed; the power of God acts in us, we begin to feel and be new creatures, a good seed is planted into us, then the process of sanctification starts. The Holy Spirit dwells in us. The fear of the Lord makes us respect His commands, we love His Law. Then our mouth expresses and speaks good words.

The work of the Spirit in us makes good works that benefit people, by love we wish to please our Lord, and good words and actions are done in our soul by the power of God. The apostle Paul says:

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them”. Ephesians 2:10.

    Let us think…
We are created again in Christ Jesus, that is to say: Christ Jesus lives in us by his Spirit, so we are able to speak good words and do good works. Those works that God has before prepared so that we should walk in them.

Those regenerated people are that good man, or good woman, who speak good words or do good works, which God has store up in them. These words shall justify you, if you are such a kind of good person.

You bring good things from God, the only one who is good.

May our Lord God increase our knowledge of Him so that it be useful for His name’s glory.
