Who is the greatest

Today there is a constant war to be at the top, to be recognized, to be the greatest, the most influential in society and this not only stands out in the secular world, but we also see it in the church. And this attempt to be the greatest has done a great evil in every sense of the word, since it makes us look like people who only care about ourselves and that what we do is for our own glory, and it should not be like that , everything we do must be solely and exclusively for the glory of His Name.

On one occasion the disciples came to Jesus with the question: Who is the greatest? Jesus’ response can be interpreted as “being humble, not looking for your own”:

1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:1-3

After the disciples had asked this question, Jesus chose a child and put him in their midst, and told them that if they did not turn around and act like children they would not enter the kingdom of heaven. Why as children? A child has completely different thoughts than an adult, his mind is cleaner, and that is why Paul says that we are like children in regard to malice (1 Corinthians 14:20).

The proof that we have really been born again and that we are like children in terms of malice means that we do not seek our own good, but that we seek to give glory to God with all that we are and love our neighbor as ourselves.

Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

Matthew 18:4-5

That is the greatest friend, the one who humbles himself like a child. And remember: “God looks at the haughty from far and the humble up close.”
