Jesus has overcome the world

Living a holy life is difficult, we can not believe the false story that it is easy, because, in many verses from the Bible, Jesus has warned us how difficult it would be for us as Christians to live in this world full of impiety. Jesus who spoke to us about this was not an inexperienced person, since He had to endure the yoke of this world, suffering even death and death on the cross, and being despised by humanity, but if something can serve us as light it is the knowledge that Christ has overcome the world.

The Bible says:

32 A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

John 16:32-33

At the moment when Christ was speaking these words to His disciples, the moment of His death was approaching and He was giving them these words to comfort their souls, so that they understand that although He left this world He was never going to abandon them, they already had free access to the Father and they should not fear any situation in life.

Let us focus our attention on this phrase: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”. The first thing is that Jesus has never promised us an easy life, He has never promised us an easy way, He has promised us a narrow way, a path full of afflictions and difficult moments, but He has also promised us that He would be with us every day of our lives.

Jesus more than anyone knows the pain that is going on in this world, the afflictions that we have to live as Christians, for denying ourselves to this world, since He suffered pain until death. However, Jesus is a clear example that we can overcome the world as He overcame it, a clear example that if He is with us we can also overcome the world.

Beloved brothers, Christ tells us in this world: “Trust, I have overcome the world”.

May the peace of God flood our hearts and help us stand firm and be able to overcome the world. God protect us!

  1. JESUS HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD

I have taken the following sentence explained in today’s article. We should pay attention to it.

“Living a holy life is difficult, we can not believe the false story that it is easy, because, in many verses from the Bible, Jesus has warned us how difficult it would be for us as Christians to live in this world full of impiety.”

The Lord Jesus said to us
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

In fact since the Devil is the master of unbelievers in the World, the people of God here throughout the centuries, have gone through persecutions and difficulties on the World. The Devil and his angels know their days are counted. They fight against us ignoring that our Lord has already overcome them, and the World where they are on the loose will be destroyed also.

In the book of Revelation we read that the Devil was besieging the child Jesus at time he was born, afterwards Herod wanted to kill him.
In Matthew 8:29 several devils cried out to Jesus:
“What have we to do with you, Jesus, you Son of God? are you come here to torment us before the time?”

Oh, poor of us and helpless! That is what we could think, but…
We must not be afraid, Jesus said to his disciples:

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever” John 14:16

If we indeed believe in Jesus Christ, the power of God, his Holy Spirit, dwells in us, and the Lord is near us too.
We can trust on Him and look for his help. In temptation we ought to appeal to the name of Jesus. He is our defence and refuge in the evil day.
I’m sure everyone of us has tasted the grace and the power of God in our life, here on this World.

We can appropriate the words of the psalmist and say with him:
“But I will sing of your power; yes, I will sing aloud of your mercy in the morning: for you have been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.” (Psalm 59:16)

    God be blessed!
