The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge

Around us we will always have people who will reject the wisdom and fear of the Lord, these people will be falling by their own feet, and it is because they love more to walk in their own opinions.

The wise man sees the evil and departs, but the foolish is attacked by the evil. The Lord looks after His children every day, we see this because God has control of all things, and everyone who hears the Lord’s call is freed from evil.

let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance—

Proverbs 1:5

The man who listens to the Lord and practices His will will increase his knowledge every day, but also the one who knows will receive advice and everything he does will work out well, he will be blessed by the Lord at all times.

When we are understood and wise in the Lord, in our lives everything will turn out well and more when we continue to seek wisdom from our Almighty God. We know that everyone who hears the counsel of God and maintains humility, his life will be filled with more wisdom and joy.

Proverbs 1:6

To understand the words of the Lord we must ask Him to give us wisdom. God is the one who gives us all wisdom because it is from Him that it flows. Without that wisdom we can not understand anything at all.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:7

Anyone who rejects advice and wisdom, lives his life despising all the good that is around him, rejecting the words of Almighty God, ignoring the bearer of all understanding. As His word tells us: Because everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to the one who calls, it will be opened to him. Matthew 7:8

The book of Proverbs constantly presents us with two paths: the way of wisdom and the way of foolishness. These two roads symbolize two attitudes of the heart—one that bows before the Lord in humility and obedience, and another that rises in pride, believing itself to be sufficient and rejecting divine counsel. The first path leads to life and blessing, while the second leads inevitably to ruin.

The wise are not wise because they know everything, nor because they are intellectually superior, but because they recognize their need for God. They listen. They reflect. They humbly receive correction. The foolish, on the other hand, refuse instruction because they trust in their own understanding, and the Scriptures teach us that such a heart ends up trapped by its own errors. It is not God who pushes them toward destruction—it is their own stubbornness that blinds them.

When the Bible says, “let the wise listen and add to their learning,” it shows us that wisdom is not a destination but a continual growth. Even the wise still have much to learn, much to understand, much to correct. The truly wise person knows that every day is an opportunity to mature, to discern better, to refine his character, to separate what is good from what is harmful, and to walk in greater alignment with God’s will.

Another key point in this passage is the relationship between wisdom and humility. Only the humble can grow, because only they recognize their limitations. Pride closes the ears, but humility opens them. And the Lord pours His wisdom on those who approach Him with a teachable heart. That is why Scripture says that the fear of the Lord—the reverent awe and submission to His authority—is the beginning of knowledge. Without that posture, nothing else can be built.

We live in a generation that often despises correction. People reject any voice that challenges their lifestyle or beliefs. Yet God continues to call us to the opposite spirit: to seek counsel, to embrace instruction, to learn from His Word, and to allow His truth to shape every part of our lives. His commandments are not burdensome—they are protection, guidance, and life.

And the promise remains firm: everyone who seeks, finds. Everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who knocks will see a door opened. God does not hide wisdom from us—He invites us to pursue it. He desires that we walk securely, that we avoid unnecessary pain, and that we experience the fullness of His blessing.

So let us walk daily in humility, with open hearts and attentive ears. Let us be among those who seek wisdom with passion, who treasure the Word of God, and who allow the fear of the Lord to govern their decisions. For in that path, Scripture assures us, we will find understanding, protection, joy, and a life guided by the very wisdom of heaven.

Fervent in spirit serving the Lord
Let your light shine before others
