The Lord your God is God, faithful God

A great attribute of God is faithfulness. He can not deny Himself because it is an attribute of God as such, and we must know this, that even though we are unfaithful, God remains faithful. God’s faithfulness goes beyond our actions or our behavior, God is God, and fulfills all His promises.

We human beings are given to promise and not to fulfill, even, sometimes we even forget what we have promised and unfortunately that belongs to our nature, but the nature of God is totally different from that of us, when God promises something, He does not forget what He has promised. He is God, strong and powerful God, the God who showed part of His power to the people of Israel.

The Bible says:

9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

10 But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him.

11 Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today.

Deuteronomy 7:9-11

This is a passage so that the people of Israel will never forget the God they were serving and in the same way it is a passage for us to know this God. How can we know that the Lord our God is faithful? If we keep His commandments and love Him with all our heart as the Scriptures command us, then we will see the mighty hand of God acting on our behalf.

The people of Israel gave testimony in the Bible of all the wonders that God did for them. However, they also bore witness to God’s wrath for their disobedience. We must understand that to we must serve that faithful and merciful God with fear and reverence and keep His commandments.

Our God is powerful and never forgets His children.

When we speak of the faithfulness of God, we are talking about one of the most comforting and stabilizing truths of the Christian life. It means that God is absolutely reliable, completely firm, and eternally consistent in everything He does. His character never changes, His promises never fail, and His love is never withdrawn from His people. This truth has sustained believers across generations, giving strength in moments of fear, hope in moments of uncertainty, and encouragement when everything around seems unstable. Unlike humans, who change with time, with emotions and circumstances, God remains the same yesterday, today and forever.

Throughout the Scriptures, we see how God repeatedly demonstrated His faithfulness despite the inconsistencies of His people. He made a covenant with Abraham, and even when Abraham’s descendants walked in rebellion, God preserved a remnant and fulfilled every promise He had spoken. In the wilderness, when Israel complained, doubted and disobeyed, God still provided water, food and protection. His faithfulness was not dependent on their behavior but rooted in His own perfect nature. This same God continues to be faithful to us today, sustaining us even when our faith falters and lifting us when we fall.

If we look deeper at the passage in Deuteronomy, we see that God wanted Israel to live with a constant awareness of His loyalty. He declares Himself as the God who keeps His covenant of love to a thousand generations. This means that God is committed to His people far beyond one lifetime; His promises extend through centuries, ensuring that His truth and His mercy endure. At the same time, the text warns that rejecting God leads to consequences, because His justice is as real as His love. Knowing this should lead us to humility, obedience, and reverence.

For believers today, the faithfulness of God is seen most clearly in Christ. Every promise of God finds its “Yes” in Jesus. Through Him, we have forgiveness, adoption, eternal life, and the assurance that God will never abandon us. Even in seasons when we feel weak or insufficient, God remains committed to completing the work He began in us. His faithfulness guarantees that His grace is enough for our present and His hand will guide our future.

Therefore, acknowledging God’s faithfulness should move us to live with gratitude, to trust Him even when circumstances seem dark, and to rest in the truth that our God never changes. His promises are firm, His love is constant, and His care is unfailing.
