My son, do not forget my teaching

It is important that we remember not to forget the teachings of the Lord, and that each day we must respect the laws of Almighty God when we fulfill the mandate of the Lord, when we fulfill His law, because in everything we will do well.

My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,

Proverbs 3:1

All the time we must have in our hearts the laws of the Lord, and not only have them, but we can be perfect before God, and be able to teach other people that the laws of the Lord are important in our lives.

for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.

Proverbs 3:2

This is the promise for all those who walk under the laws of the Lord, He promises them to have long lives and that peace will increase together, so it is good that His law be carried with integrity.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.

Proverbs 3:3

If we obey the Lord, none of these things will turn away from us, but if we disobey His law, the mercy of God will not accompany us, but will turn away from us because we were unfaithful to God.

And for that reason He tells us that His law is the first thing that should be in our hearts, and that we write it in the center of our hearts, also that we tie it to our necks.

Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

Proverbs 3:4

It must be said that the Lord makes this warning because He knows the hearts of everybody, God knows that people can turn away from His law, but He tells them that if we abide in His law, we will do well in everything, and His mercy will accompany us. all the time, and that the peace that He gives us will be increased every day, and that we will always find grace before the eyes of God.

These verses from Proverbs remind us of a profound truth: spiritual growth and stability are not accidental; they are the fruit of a heart that continually treasures the Word of God. Many people desire peace, prosperity, and long life, but few are willing to root their lives in obedience and discipline. God does not merely command obedience to restrict us, but to guide us toward what gives life, wisdom, and protection. When we forget His teachings, we drift toward decisions that bring confusion and pain, but when His Word remains alive in us, it becomes a lamp that illuminates every step we take.

To keep His commands in our hearts means to meditate on them, to reflect on them when we rise, when we lie down, and in every moment of the day. It means that the principles of Scripture become the foundation of our character and the filter of our decisions. A life governed by God’s wisdom is a life marked by direction, correction, and maturity. This is why the writer of Proverbs speaks of love and faithfulness as ornaments around our neck—symbols of something visible, permanent, and close to our identity.

Love and faithfulness are not simply virtues; they are evidences of a heart transformed by God. When these qualities are present in a believer, relationships flourish, integrity increases, and testimony becomes a powerful tool to glorify the Lord. On the contrary, when these virtues fade, selfishness and instability take their place. God desires that His people reflect His character, and one of the clearest ways to do so is by living with fidelity, compassion, and righteousness.

The promise that follows—finding favor and a good name before God and man—is not about human applause but about a life aligned with God’s standards. When someone walks in obedience, their life becomes a testimony of divine guidance. People notice the peace, the wisdom, and the steadiness that come from living according to God’s statutes. This favor is the natural result of a consistent walk with the Lord.

In conclusion, the passage is a call to deepen our commitment to God’s Word. It reminds us that obedience is not an optional virtue but the very path to spiritual vitality. Whoever treasures God’s teachings will walk securely, will enjoy His peace, and will be sustained by His unfailing mercy. Let us therefore write His Word on the tablet of our hearts and live daily with the certainty that God blesses those who keep His commands with sincerity.
