We Christians are called “crazy” because we believe in a being that we cannot even see. This is why some brand us as irrational, fanatics, or lunatics. Yet many of those same people believe in things they also cannot see—aliens, life on other planets, flying saucers, and countless theories without evidence. In reality, it is far more rational to believe in the existence of a supreme being who created all things with order, purpose, and precision. It is also worth noting that believing the world came from absolute nothingness without direction or design is, by all logic, even more absurd. Faith in God is not madness; it is understanding that creation reflects a Creator.
The Bible says:
6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.
7 For we live by faith, not by sight.
8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8
What is faith? Hebrews chapter eleven defines it as the certainty of what is expected and the conviction of what is not seen. If we could see God with our physical eyes, then it would be too easy to believe. We have the example of Thomas: he did not believe until he put his fingers in the hands and side of Jesus. Once he saw and touched, believing was effortless. But true faith is not built on sight; it is built on trust in the nature and promises of God.
The Bible also says that without faith it is impossible to please God, and that those who come to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. In other words, we do not pray merely to say words into the air; we do not follow Christ because it is fashionable or comfortable. We are Christians because God has intervened in our lives in a supernatural and transformative way. This divine intervention produces in us a deep and genuine faith in the existence and goodness of God.
Many may call us irrational, but faith is not the absence of reason. Faith looks beyond what the eyes can see. It acknowledges that reality goes far deeper than the visible world. While others base their beliefs solely on what is tangible, we place our trust in the eternal, the unchanging, the divine. We believe in the One who spoke and created the universe, who sustains life, who governs history, and who reveals Himself through His Word.
We do not walk by sight. We do not depend on what is immediately before our eyes. Instead, we see further—beyond circumstances, beyond pain, beyond the temporary nature of this world. We believe in God even though we cannot see Him, and that is the very essence of faith. Faith lifts us above human limitations and leads us into spiritual certainty. It grounds us when everything else shakes and comforts us when life becomes difficult.
Let us continue to maintain this precious faith. Let us keep alive that burning flame in our hearts, the flame that impels us to trust God more each day. Faith strengthens us, guides us, and keeps us firm in moments of trial. As children of God, we must hold on to this faith with conviction, knowing that the One we believe in is real, present, and faithful. May our faith shine brightly before a world that doubts, and may our confidence in God grow stronger through every step we take.
