Resist the devil and he will flee from you

When we are going through difficult or uncomfortable times we tend to make prayers of rebuke against satan and his demons and sometimes we even see that none of this serves us and we sink deeper into affliction and problems. I believe that the Bible is our manual par excellence and from this manual we have a lot to learn every day.

James said in his letter:

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.

10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

James 4: 7-10

Are you fighting against the evil one? For all of us who are Christians fight against the evil one, the Bible itself tells us that we have no war against flesh and blood, but against principalities and hosts of evil and this makes our struggle even stronger, since we are faced with a world physical and spiritual, which is much more difficult.

But what should we do to fight this spiritual battle? We just have to do what every Christian is supposed to do: “submit to God”, and the way we submit to God is keeping His word and in this way we resist satan and he have to flee from us.

Are you extremely pressured by satan? Be quiet, this is something that we have to go through, because he walks like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour, but regardless of his tricks we must remember what James himself says later: “Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.” This promise must give us enough hope.

It only remains for us to humble ourselves every day before God and when that day arrives He will exalt us.

For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things
Christ is coming

The Lord God sometimes lets the Devil make us fall into temptation. We can be overcome and sin against God’s law. He wants us to be near Him. But because we love rest and gaiety, we stop being on guard against our souls’ enemy, the Devil, who seeks to deprive us of our privileges as children of God. Satan, who knows we are more than conquerors through our Lord Jesus Christ, is trying to deceive us since he learnt about our weakness and lack of faith.

In temptation we must resist the Devil and he will flee from us.
    The apostle teaches us:
“Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4: 9-10

This is the best way to resist the Devil.
Let’s adopt an attitude of humiliation before God, praying to Him with grieve, mourning and wailing, seeking Him with a broken heart.
Doing this the Devil will flee from us. God’s grace protects us from the power of evil, and Jesus will be our defender in bad times.
