The pharisees had a big problem with judging others and not seeing their own faults. It is very similar to the culture we have developed today, we are extremely divided in terms of the beliefs we hold as a church, and not only that, but the division has led us to believe that we are more holy than others and this is a serious problem, a problem that has existed for a long time.
In chapter 15 of the book of Luke, we will find that Jesus shared with sinners, ate with them and of course, shared the gospel, that was the purpose, because, as the Bible itself states: “A healthy person does not need a doctor “, for which the purpose of Jesus has always been to take the gospel to those who are in darkness and that is very logical. However, the pharisees were always looking for something to point out, it is similar to when someone looks for the bad side of everything they see around them, the pharisees were like that and today we still have many people in our churches who are just like them .
After all the criticism that the pharisees made to Jesus for sharing with sinners, He shares the following parable:
4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
In this parable Jesus puts the typical teaching of a shepherd and his flock, meaning that for a sheepherder all the sheeps are important, and if one is lost, the shepherd will not say: “I had 100 and now 99, no matter the one that was lost”. Not! A true shepherd would leave the 99 who are safe and would go after his lost sheep. In the same way, Jesus always walks after the sinner, and this because He wants to save his soul.
Every time a sinner is converted and repented there is rejoicing in heaven, and a greater rejoicing than for those who are praising God within the church.
Let us preach the good news of salvation, let us tell people how good our God is and the wonderful plans He has for the lives of those who repent with all their heart.
But there was a day where each one in God’s church had been rejoiced over where they repented so each one of us need to remember where we were before God saved us through His Son,, and know that we still have our sinful nature until we leave this place, we need to share this with the unsaved,, but for Jesus Christ, I am lost,, AMEN
