The evil of men

Every day that passes we see how humanity advances towards evil, men committing all kind of atrocities regardless of the consequences that may come to their lives.

The humanity every day is involved in pleasures of the life, but is not pending to that all this passes, and that their life someday will arrive at its end by all the evil that have committed.

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

Genesis 6:5

If we begin to read chapter 6 of Genesis we will find that man multiplied day after day, but likewise evil also grew.

Verse 6 of Genesis 6 tells us that God repented of having created man and that His heart was troubled. But many will think that God does not have a heart, but they are wrong because the Lord does hurt everything that happens in this world.

We see in what has become, in a total depravity where men do not care to kill their neighbor:

The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.

Genesis 6:6

Many wonder, and why does God regret having created man?. Well, because man has always been ready to listen to his own conscience and to practice evil, descending continuously to evil.

Man did not think about the Creator, what would think that who created us, they thought that God was going to allow them everything they were committing before His eyes:

7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”

8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Genesis 6: 7-8

Then God decided to erase man from the face of the earth because of his wickedness, because man went continually to evil, but not only man but everything He had created.

Those people thought that God would sit idly seeing their sin, but surprise, because it was not like that, because God does not miss anything, He is always attentive to everything we do, because His eyes are on us, and it is good that if we are doing something that is not pleasing before God, let’s fix it before it’s too late.

When we meditate on this passage, we realize that the human condition has not changed much. Although centuries have passed, the heart of man continues to struggle with the same inclinations toward evil. Modern society may have advanced in technology, communication and knowledge, but spiritually it faces the same challenges that led humanity to corruption in the days of Noah. This shows us that the root of the problem is not external progress, but the condition of the heart.

In many ways, the world today resembles that ancient world: violence increases, people justify sin, and moral values are trampled. Entertainment often celebrates what displeases God, and many live as if there were no accountability. This is why these Scriptures are so relevant—they remind us that God sees everything, including the intentions of the heart, not just external actions.

However, in the midst of such darkness, the Bible also introduces a message of hope. Just as God saw the wickedness, He also saw Noah, a man who walked with Him. This teaches us that even when the world seems corrupted, God always preserves a remnant that seeks Him sincerely. Noah did not live in ideal conditions; he lived surrounded by immorality, yet he remained faithful. This encourages believers today to remain firm in obedience, even when society moves in the opposite direction.

Another important truth is that God’s patience, although immense, is not eternal. The people of Noah’s day thought judgment would never come, and many today think the same. But Scripture teaches that God gives opportunities for repentance, and His warnings are acts of mercy. He is slow to anger, but He is also just. Ignoring His call brings consequences, just as in Genesis. Reflecting on this should lead us to humility and repentance.

Finally, this passage reminds us that every person must examine their life honestly. Are we walking toward God or away from Him? Are our actions pleasing to Him, or are we repeating the mistakes of those who ignored His voice? The message of Genesis 6 is not only historical; it is a mirror that shows us the urgency of returning to God with sincerity, trusting in His mercy and aligning our lives according to His will.

  1. The flood didn’t fix the problem. Things are as bad today if not worse. God doesn’t make it easy to understand why. Come on God, send Jesus now. There will never be a time before he comes when all will accept him as SAVIOUR and KING. Have mercy on those who still say NO.
