The Bible tell us about the story of a king that prayed to God and got more years of life. The name of that king was Hezekiah, who began to reing in Jerusalem when he was 25 years old. The Bible tells us about good and bad kings, bud Hezekiah was of those good kings that are registered in the Chronicles of the kings of Israel, and talks aboud tim: “And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done.” (2 Chronicles 29:2) .

Hezekiah was a very important king, that is, he did very important works during his reign, because, as we wrote in our introductory paragraph: “There were good and bad kings”. There were many kings who were so bad, that almost all the people of Israel went after the idols.

And one of the important works that Hezekiah did during his reign was to re-establish the cult of the temple, for it says:

3 In the first month of the first year of his reign, he opened the doors of the temple of the Lord and repaired them.

4 He brought in the priests and the Levites, assembled them in the square on the east side

5 and said: “Listen to me, Levites! Consecrate yourselves now and consecrate the temple of the Lord, the God of your ancestors. Remove all defilement from the sanctuary.

2 Chronicles 29:3-5

Hezekiah was a man who became involved in the service of God. However, he had an extremely difficult time in his life, and that is when he got sick from death, says the biblical story:

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

Isaiah 38:1

Can you imagine how terrible it is to be sick and that a prophet of God tells you you are going to die? And it was not about any prophet, it was about the prophet Isaiah, a man of God. How bitter that moment must have been for Hezekiah, however, this king was fervent, he prayed to God so that He looks at his condition and heal him, fully believing that all was not lost, and for this he makes the following prayer:

2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,

3 “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Isaiah 38:2-3

No one really wants to die, and this is tragic news for a king who has done what is good before God. It says that Hezekiah wept bitterly, and it was no wonder. There are many beautiful things that one does not want to miss: children, wife, close relatives, friends, etc. And you want to live long years to enjoy those dear people.

Sometimes we are so shy before God and do not appeal our cause. Hezekiah did not sit idly by, he prayed to God fervently and for demonstration of that, God answered him positively by saying:

4 Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah:

5 “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.

6 And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.

Isaiah 38: 4-6

We believe in God as Hezekiah believed, who prayed fervently to his God and was favored. Let us remember that our God is great in mercy and that He is aware of each one of our prayers.

Light in the midst of darkness
From each crisis we can get something good
