Today many scholars recognize that Jesus Christ is a real character in history, but they do not see Him as the Son of God or Creator of the heavens and the earth, rather, they see Him as a simple jewish prophet. They believe that Jesus came and existed for the first time and that He died but was not resurrected.
Something we must understand is that Jesus is more important or more transcendental than everything described above. John gives us a lot of clarity of who Jesus really is, he begins his first chapter in the following way:
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1: 1-5
These 5 verses with which John begins exalt Jesus as King and Lord of all creation. Here John is going to the beginning of creation and tells us that in that principle spoken of in Genesis chapter 1 the verb existed. The word verb comes from the Greek Logos which means Word. That is, in the beginning was Jesus Christ, which is equivalent to the existence of Jesus Christ in the beginning, and He was with God and not only that He was with God but that He was God.
Without a doubt, Jesus Christ was also there creating the world and everything that inhabits it. He is not a historical character or a prophet or a miracle worker. He is not only that, He is the most important character that has trodden the earth, which already existed from eternity.
The world had never known God, but could know him because the verb (Jesus Christ) became flesh, that is, He became a man and lived among us.
The Bible itself gives us a demonstration that He is God. At that time, in which Jesus lived on this earth, the disciples were not clear about who Jesus Christ really was. And for this we find a certain biblical verses that says:
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
John 14:8-10
You realize? Philip wanted to see the Father (God), since no man ever saw God, so John himself says in verse 18: “No one has ever seen God, the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known. ” But Jesus says to Philip: He who has seen me has seen the Father. It is incredible, but of that being that the same Bible tells us that the skies of heaven can not contain Him, walked among men, became man, endured the reproach, died and rose again on the third day with great power and glory. Praise God!
Paul says:
6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
1 Corinthians 8:6
Through Jesus Christ are all things, through Him we are and live, and move. He is more than a simple character, He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
