How to build our house on the Rock

It is very important to build a good house, since when natural disasters come, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, among others, our house can remain without any damage. There are countries where their buildings are so bad that they can not stand the first natural disaster that comes because they are not well founded, they do not have good columns and any wind destroys them.

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Matthew 7:24-25

The first thing is that Jesus presents here the Word of God as the indestructible material of a good foundation. Every Christian has been called to base his house on the Word of God, and even, Jesus compares those who do this with a man who built his house on the Rock. The rocks are characterized by being a material difficult to break, rocks are also usually above the sea or above the rivers and for this reason Jesus says:

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Matthew 7:25

If our faith is based on the Rock that is Christ, no matter how many problems come our way, it does not matter that we are facing the most difficult problem of our life, well, we are well grounded and simply these things will not bring us down.

The Bible says:

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Romans 8:35

Later Paul continues saying:

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

Paul is also talking about those believers who have based their faith, their life, on the Word of God. Nothing can separate us from Christ. No tempest can take us out of his precious arms.

Now, Jesus makes reference to another group, who hears the Word of God but does not put it into practice, and compares them like the man who built his house on the sand, winds came on it and fell, why? Because it was not based on the Rock:

26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Matthew 7:26-27

Dear reader, the Rock is Christ and the good foundation is His Word and if we are not grounded in His Word, then we are sensitive to the problems of life. Christ wants us to be grounded in His Word, because in this way we can remain in Him.

We must have a strong faith which is like the mount of Zion that remains forever. Let’s engrave the Word of God in our minds and hearts, and strengthen ourselves in it more and more every day.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
    (Matthew 7:24-25)

The great architect, God the Father, is the one who has sent us to Jesus, the Rock. He gave us devices to start to build on this Rock:

First of all, he led us to come into contact with His Word, the Bible, which teaches us what God is like, and shows us his promises.
Second: He put in us Faith to believe that we do need to be edified on Jesus, the Rock, so that we may not fall in the Devil’s power, which would drag us into Hell.
Third: God taught us it is of no value to try to edify on sand, which is not a solid foundation. Edifying on sand is to seek another way of salvation, as may be “religion” or our own good works, instead of putting our confidence in Jesus Christ and his merits—which is a very wise decision.

Therefore, good words are those which are found at the end of this article, because they encourage us to put our faith in Jesus, the way to the everlasting Life—and, yes, they motivate us to have the Word of God increasingly engraved in our hearts.
