Temptations are those tests that we would prefer never to face in our daily lives, yet they are an unavoidable part of the Christian walk. Every believer, no matter how mature or spiritually strong, encounters temptations of various kinds. These moments challenge our faith, our obedience, and our character. But the good news is this: we are not alone in our struggles, and we are not without hope. Jesus Christ Himself faced temptation, and because He overcame, we can also overcome through His strength. His victory becomes our assurance that God will give us triumph in every situation we face.
Let us read Matthew chapter 4:
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
One of the clearest signs that we are true Christians is the presence of temptation in our lives. Temptation does not mean defeat; rather, it is evidence that we belong to Christ and that the enemy opposes us. Even though we cannot avoid temptation, we can absolutely overcome it—because Christ has shown us how. Matthew tells us that the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness specifically to be tempted. This does not mean that God tempts anyone—Scripture makes clear that God does not tempt to evil—but He does allow temptations to strengthen us and reveal the genuineness of our faith.
Many people mistakenly believe that resisting temptation was easy for Jesus simply because He is the Son of God. But this is a misunderstanding. While Jesus is fully God, He also became fully man. He experienced hunger, fatigue, loneliness, and pain just as we do. He felt the weight of temptation with the same intensity any human would. Yet He overcame—not by relying on divine privilege, but by living in perfect submission to the Father. That is why He taught us to pray without ceasing, “lest ye enter into temptation.” When we neglect prayer, we weaken ourselves spiritually, making it far easier to fall into sins that could have been avoided.
In our chosen text, Satan presented Jesus with real temptations. He spoke partial truths. Yes, Christ had the power to turn stones into bread. Yes, He was capable of performing miracles that no one had ever seen. But the true intention of the devil was to divert Jesus from the purpose of God. Temptation often works this way—it presents something that seems good, reasonable, or satisfying, but the goal behind it is to pull us away from obedience to God.
In this spiritual battle, Jesus used one of the most powerful weapons available to every believer: the Word of God. Each time Satan tempted Him, Jesus responded with Scripture. He did not rely on emotion, human reasoning, or His own strength. He responded with what God had spoken. This reveals a crucial truth for us: we cannot overcome temptation without the Scriptures. The Bible shapes our minds, strengthens our hearts, and gives us clarity to recognize the enemy’s lies.
The Word of God is essential because it exposes deception and reveals truth. It reminds us of God’s promises, teaches us His commands, and equips us to stand firm. When temptation comes—and it will—the Scriptures are our shield. And Jesus has given us the perfect example of how to use them effectively.
So, no matter what kind of temptation you are currently facing, be encouraged. Christ faced temptations more intense than anything we could imagine, and He overcame them all. His victory is our hope. God does not leave His children helpless. The same Spirit who strengthened Jesus strengthens us. The same Scriptures Jesus used are in our hands. And the same Father who watched over His Son watches over us.
Trust that God will give you the victory. Resist the devil, cling to the Word, remain in prayer, and walk closely with Christ. Temptation may come, but through Him, you will overcome. God bless you.

Jesus and the temptation
=====================
Thinking about why the Lord God lets Satan tempt His children, I believe that the Lord wants to test our fidelity to Him. Besides, he wants us to move closer to Him by our prayer, seeking His fellowship through his Son Jesus Christ.
The saviour of sinners himself, Jesus, had to bear the Devil’s attacks to show us he is a true man, though a perfect man without sin. Matthew writes:
“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.” (Matthew 4:1)
With temptation, the believer is tested so that he may give evidence that he is a person who wants to be faithful to his Lord; that he respects his holy Law, wants to learn of it and wishes to please Him.
Men and women of God have always shown their piety and dependency on Him by prayer. We can see that when we read the Holy Scriptures. The Lord Jesus Christ teaches us how necessary it is to pray to resist temptation:
“Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
(Matthew 26:41)
Prayer is the way to have spiritual contact with the Lord God, asking him his help to resist attacks from the Devil or his servants. It is good to pray and speak with the Lord so that he may increase our faith and give us spiritual joy. Thiz helps us to seek Jesus every day.
“And he spoke a parable to them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” (Luke 18:1)
Prayer is the way we have to ask God through Jesus and in His name, for all our needs: both material and spiritual We ought to be constant in prayer, a silent prayer wherever we may be: at the moment of affliction, or when we feel Satan’s attacks.
Let’s pray always so that we may not fall into temptation
AMEN
