Remember that we have a cross to carry

Jesus Christ was the one who started by taking on his shoulders a heavy cross, carrying our sins on Him, carrying that burden so heavy that it was impossible for us to carry. Through carrying that cross He broke down that wall that man built in Eden, which separated us from God. Praise be our Lord, who endured all the reproach for our transgressions.

Jesus’ love for his creatures was not based on how good we were or how many good works we possessed, his love was beyond what we can think. The heavy death of Christ on the cross is impressive, since it is so difficult for us to love our enemies, those who harm us, those who do not help us at the time we need them, however, Jesus carried that heavy cross for people who loved sin, for haters of the truth, for a totally depraved man. Is not this glorious? Yes, it is the most incredible news ever heard before. Christ gave his life for sinful men, who did not deserve forgiveness.

That cross does not stop at the scene of the Calvary, where its second blood was spilled, oh yes, precious blood spilled, where the nails were placed in his beautiful hands, where to one voice all the audience exclaimed: “crucify him!”, where at that moment a new curtain opened in history, the most moving moment in the history of mankind, where the righteous gave his life for sinners, where the innocent was treated as guilty, where the Saint was treated like a criminal. No! That cross does not stop at that majestic moment, but we must also continue to carry the cross of Christ, because our own Master Jesus Christ said:

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

Luke 9:23

Sometimes we forget that we have a cross to carry, and at times of day to day we put it to rest and we forget the sacrifice of Christ and step on his blood, doing things that are not pleasing to God, and we know it.

We must be careful to despise the mighty blood of Christ and to this the author of the Hebrews tells us:

13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,

14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Hebrews 9:13-15

Brothers, let us not tread the blood of Christ in our day to day life, rather, we invite you to take the cross every day and put Christ on hold at every moment of our lives. We assure you that there is no greater treasure than this.

  4. Remember that we have a cross to carry
    ======================
By the fact we are followers of Jesus, we have to carry a cross, just as he carried one: Jesus carried that cross, which he willingly bore on his way to Calvary, where he was crucified for us, for those who receive Him. Jesus was despised and maltreated by people who did not know what they did.
They thought he was one more of those who deserved such a punishment, a rebel, a transgressor of the law that had to be crucified.

People did not know Jesus was crucified instead of others. He was a victim unjustly punished.
And yet, by the power of the Holy Spirit, a lot of people would follow his steps and would be ready to follow his Master carrying their own crosses.

“Then He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.’” Luke 9:23

When a leader is persecuted, his followers are persecuted also. Every follower of Jesus remembers that their Master suffered for us, and therefore we also can suffer for Jesus’s sake, according to God’s Will. We have learnt from history how Christians have testified for Christ, and sometimes they lost their lives.
Our good behaviour, a different way of life (befitting the children of God), and our advice that people should repent—all these things may provoke unfriendliness towards Christians. This happened in past times and it can come back again.

So, that witness, in part, accounts for our “cross” in this life—besides, of course, our struggles to overcome
life’s own difficulties, economic or family troubles; as well as some serious illness which, in the providence of God, we can suffer.
All those things can be our “cross” too; and Jesus says we must bear it all and follow Him.

However, we are not alone in this life: Christ is with us daily in our problems and bad situations, and that allows us to resist throughout our lives in this world. God’s providence supplies and enables us to go on.

But, as we mentioned, it is good to remember that our duties and possible difficulties can come to us for our faith’s sake. We are called to deny ourselves and bear our cross, running after the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us.

May the Lord God give us strength and
full confidence in Him in the evil day, knowing that we will successfully come off because we are his blessed servants on this world
