Fixing our eyes on Jesus

Today, it is unfortunate that the testimony of the church has been tarnished by non-Christians who are there, and is for this that there are many non-converts who say: “To be like so-and-so I prefer to continue where I am.” Dear reader, if you are one of those who think so, then I invite you to put your gaze on Jesus and I assure you that you will not see in Him the same thing that you see in others.

John MacArthur said:

“The Church is not perfect, never has been. Some people use this as an excuse to stay away from the Church, saying, ‘I would like to attend a church, but there are many hypocrites there.’ I say to them: ‘Come, we have room for one more.”

Yes dear friend, in the church there will always be a space for everyone that our Lord Jesus Christ brings. The church can have its defects, religion can have its defects, the pastor can have its defects, the little brother who lives next to your house also has its defects, but there is not a single defect in Jesus, He and only He is the seal of divine perfection, there is not a single defect in Him, so if you can not trust religion, I invite you to put your eyes on Christ, and I assure you that you will realize of all the beauty that is in Him.

The writer of the Hebrews said:

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2

Let’s put our eyes on Jesus, He is and will be the greatest example we have ever had in this life. Still suffering all the vicissitudes he had, being betrayed, crucified and totally humiliated, he loved us with a love that surpassed all our offenses.

From this moment we challenge you to put your eyes on Christ, if you have felt bad for all the things that are seen in the day to day among false brothers, we tell you that in Christ everything is different.

Who can seek perfection—and actually assume they’ve found it —in men or women of this world, simply by the fact they are in the Church of Christ?
There they can find people who want to be perfected by Jesus and wish to please Him, but not perfect people yet: so they will make mistakes and fall into sin. They must look to Jesus Christ: that one whom the Scriptures tell us of.

Of course, if someone wants to fix their eyes on Jesus, they will not see Him physically anywhere. But his words and facts, that are kept in the Bible, invite us to fix our eyes on Him.
Many people you can find in congregations are not an example to be followed, and it’s difficult for others to think they are like Jesus—despite the fact He challenges them to learn of Him and to be like he is.
“Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.”
    (Matthew 11:29)

As many of us know, Jesus is the Son of God; therefore He is perfect, good and holy, just, merciful; and He is also severe.
Besides, Jesus has a body, as we have; but he is pure, meek and lowly in heart.
We are not so: we are evil people and prone to foolishness and vanity of the flesh; so in us hypocrisy can be manifested, which means to pretend to be or to have those things we are not, or we have not in us, like maybe “love to brothers”.

So if we don’t learn of Jesus, we are false people and we can’t show an image of Jesus in us: we don’t represent Him faithfully; and we are far from being a point of reference for others. Our hearts need to be changed. Otherwise we will be religious people, maybe, but not Christians.

If we “try to be” Christians, we are not yet followers of Christ. Rather, we need to “be” new creatures in Christ, by God’s sovereign and unilateral work in us. Our minds need to change; the fear of God must be implanted in our hearts, so that we can be doers of good works, without lies or tricks.
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)

May the power of the Spirit of God act in all of us, in order to become good Christians, who seek our Lord’s glory, as we also have in view this aim: that others may be added to His Church, to his kingdom
