Train up a child in the way of God

Raising and forming children has always been one of the most sacred responsibilities that God has entrusted to parents. In today’s world this task has become even more complex, because society constantly promotes behaviors that lead children away from truth, respect, and obedience. Values are distorted, rebellion is celebrated, and discipline is often seen as something negative. For this reason it is more important than ever to return to what Scripture teaches about the upbringing of children. God has not remained silent on this matter; instead, He gives us clear instructions so that our children may walk on the right path. The following reflection is based on that biblical command that has guided generations and continues to shine with wisdom today.

Train up a child in the way he should go,

And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

Today we can see how children are being taught different things that lead them to disobey both the law and each of the people around them. We live in a time when many parents have abandoned their role as guides and protectors and, instead of teaching truth, discipline, and respect, they allow their children to fall into harmful patterns. Sadly, this is reflected in how many young people behave, lacking direction and becoming vulnerable to destructive influences.

The Bible teaches us that as parents we must teach our children to follow the ways of the Lord, to teach them the good and not the bad as it is happening in these times. Yet today we see parents giving alcoholic beverages to their children, celebrating behaviors that dishonor God, and encouraging them to do things that slowly lead them toward destruction. Other parents simply remain silent, leaving their children to be raised by social media, worldly friends, or harmful ideologies. When this happens, the child grows without a foundation and becomes easy prey for sin and confusion.

Here we can see this verse where it says that we must instruct the child in the way, so that even in his last days he does not turn away from God but instead remains practicing justice and continues doing good, teaching about the Word of the Lord. Training a child in the right path means more than giving advice; it requires consistency, example, correction, love, and a life that reflects Christ. Children imitate what they see long before they obey what they hear, which means the greatest teaching is lived, not spoken.

We can see how the Bible mentions in several passages the importance of teaching our children and how we should raise them. One example appears in Isaiah 54:13:

All your children shall be taught by the Lord, And great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13

This passage tells us that when children are instructed in the truth of God, peace multiplies in their lives and in their home. A child who grows up knowing the Lord is less likely to fall into rebellion, violence, or confusion. Teaching them the Word gives them an inner compass that guides them even when parents are not present. This is why it is necessary for children to receive proper instruction so that they do not follow the path of evil as we so often see today.

Here is another example found in Genesis 18:19:

For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” Genesis 18:19

Father, mother, this verse encourages you to command your children to keep the way of the Lord, to teach them to do good so they may walk in the way that leads to salvation. Abraham was blessed not only for his own obedience but also because he taught his family to follow God. This same responsibility is placed upon every Christian parent today.

This advice is for you father, mother: show your children the way of the Lord. Instruct them in the Word, teach them who God is, and let them see your faith in action. Then, when they grow up, they will say: “I practice the good and the justice of God because my parents instructed me in the way since I was little.” And they, in turn, will guide their own children. A home built on God’s truth becomes a blessed and prosperous home, guarded by the Lord and filled with His peace.

  1. Train up a child in the way of God
    ======================
Probably some of us who read this biblical page have a family, and God have blessed us with some child.
I see today’s article is very necessary for people, be they at the present time believers or not.
Kids must be taught in God’s fear, to help them to live wisely in this depraved world, which exerts so great an influence and would drag them and others to hell. Children need help and advice to leave evil companies behind.

“Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

In general, people are trained up to do an activity in sports, in the navy or the army; and also to be useful in a job. In all activities, people with moral values are needed, and Christian training tries to change evil behaviours, so that Christians can be the salt of the earth, as Jesus said:
“You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his flavor, with which shall it be salted”
    (Matthew 5:13)

All things have a beginning, and kids are the basis of the future. A building with a good foundation remains strong and firm through the times, and a society with morally sound people is a reliable society.
The world needs true Christians, people with a morality that is shaped by the Bible.

The role and labor of parents in the family is vital and very important:
mother and father, without anyone substituting or ever standing in for them at home. Their presence and good example are very important for their children: a Christian upbringing may, in adulthood, be good for them among ungodly people. They should be the salt of the earth.

We know that many parents are busy with a job outside home, and so they are not able to assist or to be properly involved in bringing up their kids. That has been a difficult problem to solve for parents in all times and, particularly, in our so-called modern civilization.
As we observe today’s world, we can see some consequences of our actions, if we, Christian parents, have neglected our duties towards our children.

We must be grateful to God for all responsible parents who have taught their children in the fear of God. We must pray to the Lord God that He may be pleased to provide for every family’s and parent’s needs—and yes, that parents may be given the wisdom they need to carry out the duties of such an admirable vocation.

May the Lord God help us to be responsible Christian parents, in order that we may follow well our vocation to educate our kids. And let us do that thinking about their eternal futures, so they can also help others in the way of salvation
