There is no magic formula for how to abide in God. It is not that we are the first to arrive at the temple, the best tithers, those who offer best, etc., since we can do everything and that and still not abide in the Lord.
John tells us how we demonstrate that we truly abide in Christ and it is good that we take these verses and thus fully examine the type of Christianity that we are living:
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
1 John 4:15-17
The Bible tells us that Christ is the only way and that only in Him is there salvation and that gives us full assurance that He is the Son of God. Back then for many Jews it was blasphemous to say something like this, but God has revealed His Son as a man and died on a cross for our salvation, and believing that, believing that He is the Son of God, then we have abide in God.
Verse 17 gives us that enormous confidence even on Judgment Day through our beloved Lord Jesus Christ, that we have nothing to fear because we abide in His love.
