We already know what the works of the flesh are, which consist of everything that displeases God, and we already know what the fruits of the Spirit are. Both are the opposite, one produces life and the other produces death. Which one do we choose?
The apostle Paul wrote to the Romans about this:
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Paul begins in verse five by establishing a difference between those who think of the things of the flesh and those who think of the things of the Spirit. If you let that fight be won by the works of the flesh and abide in them, you are simply of the flesh, that is what Paul is saying here.
The Bible establishes that the soul that sins will die, in the same way, taking care of the flesh leads us to that death, but if we take care of spiritual things then we will have life.
On the other hand, if we are Christians and still insist on doing the works of the flesh, our pilgrimage is in vain, because we are not pleasing God.
So, if you are living under the concepts of the flesh, we urge you to go before God and ask him to help you live according to the Spirit, since in this way there is life in Christ Jesus.
