The blessing of the gospel

The first thing we must ask ourselves is: What is the gospel? The Bible defines the Gospel as a message, and that message is about the life, death of the cross and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the good news that He died for our sins to give us salvation and that He comes once again to seek His holy church, and that message is truly a tremendous blessing.

The apostle Paul wrote to the Romans:

28 So after I have completed this task and have made sure that they have received this contribution, I will go to Spain and visit you on the way.

29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.

Romans 15:28-29

In the previous verses the apostle tells them about his desire to go to Rome, but first he had to finish some things. Now, the important thing that we should see here and the point that our focus should be is in verse 29 when Paul says to them: “I will come with an abundance of the blessing of the gospel of Christ”.

The apostle Paul also wrote:

1 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.

2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.

4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

The apostle Paul knew very well that the only message needed by the Gentiles and the church of Christ was the gospel message. There was not a more important message for him, that message was enough to penetrate the heart of humanity and change lives.

Today, many ministers prefer to leave this message aside because they understand that it is very old-fashioned and that methods must be found to attract souls. The truth is that for the apostles this message was sufficient and for us it must be the same, since no other message can change the life of a human being.

Christ died for us and made us free by His precious blood on the cross, is not that message enough?

Let us multiply the message of the Gospel and let us know that there is no more important message than this.

  1. The blessing of the gospel

    I quote:
“Christ died for us and made us free by His precious blood on the cross, is not that message enough?

Let us multiply the message of the Gospel and let us know that there is no more important message than this.”

I reply: Sure, but we ought to teach the Bible also. I suppose you know this perfectly, but I need to stress it.

The message of salvation is the more important theme in the Bible indeed, and it is important for us that have believed. However in the study of Holy Scripture we find other messages to teach, as God’s purpose of liberation of men by His Only begotten Son.

We need the knowledge of the Scripture to know God, as He is, and his plan of salvation for people who believe.
I think that without the knowledge of the Bible we could not preach the Gospel. The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy:

“And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15
