The King has called for you

A promise from David to the son of Jonathan called Mephibosheth. The book of 2 Samuel tells us that this young man was crippled from his two legs.

Something that we must keep in mind, is that the promises that God makes to us are good and remain forever, and in this case we will talk about David and Jonathan.

(Jonathan son of Saul had a son who was lame in both feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became disabled. His name was Mephibosheth.)

2 Samuel 4:4

Here we see that Jonathan, the son of Saul, had a 5-year-old son named Mephibosheth, and this child was crippled from his legs. But according to the story this child was not born with this defect, says that when the wet nurse heard that Saul and Jonathan had died, came out desperate with the child in her arms, but when leaving there so desperate, the boy fell from her arms, and then here is when the child became disabled. And his name was Mephibosheth.

When Saul and Jonathan were dead, David became king. But when all this happenned, David said:

David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

2 Samuel 9:1

Many thought that there was not one left of Saul’s house with which David could have mercy. But there was one left. Then they told him that his name was Mephibosheth and he was crippled from his two feet and lived in the land of Lodebar. Then David said to Siba “Are you Siba?” And he replied: “Your servant.”

5 So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.

6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.

David said, “Mephibosheth!”

“At your service,” he replied.

7 “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”

2 Samuel 9:7

And here we see how King David gives back the inheritance that his grandfather Saul left, he says that he showed mercy to his friend Jonatan’s son, and this was because of his love for Jonatan.

But this wonderful promise did not stop here, but David gave him everything he needed, and this was because King David loved his father Jonatan.

And King David said to Siba, everything that belonged to Saul, will be given to Mephibosheth, and so it happened, David delivered everything.

10 You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.)

11 Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s[a] table like one of the king’s sons.

12 Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s household were servants of Mephibosheth.

13 And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.

2 Samuel 9:10-13

It is good that we always believe that the Lord will be with us just as he was with this man named Mephibosheth, and that he received a great inheritance from King David. And this man always ate at the king’s table, and wore the king’s clothes, and this man received everything.

  1. The King has called for you
    =====================
David asked, ‘Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?’” (2 Samuel 9:1)

Then Jonathan’s son was called by king David. His name was Mephibosheth and he was lame in both feet. King David was kind to him for his father’s sake, who was an intimate friend of king David’s.

Now King David had come to the throne, and Mephibosheth would eat at the king’s table, as if he was one more of his sons. What’s more, Mephibosheth received Jonathan’s properties also.

David was merciful to Mephibosheth. There’s no comparison between this historical event in David’s life and the mercy God the Father had on us. But it does deserve to be acknowledged; and it reminds us of the kindness the Lord God showed to us—even of the fact that he has prepared a place for us in heaven! As Jesus said:
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2)

And yes, those are blessed who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb, is written in the book of Revelation:

“And he said to me, Write, Blessed are they which are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” (Revelation 19:9)

May we all be grateful to the Lord God, wh.o has blessed us in such a merciful way
